You're right, Jim but as flawed as the USN&WR tiers ranking is it's still followed by John Q Public, who don't know or don't care about agendas. Another big factor was alumni giving as well, and with so many alums, our giving rate was below 5%.

Maybe we need to get ap a delegation to go to their headquarters; it worked for Tech. Their enrollmnet increase percentage almost keeps pace with ouys and it's a little harder to get people to live in Lubbock. The school is fine and the people are great but it's still Lubbock.

By the way, I saw that our endowment is up over $70M now. That's improvement, but still a long way to go. I believe that it was down around 40 when you brought it to our attention.

I think that it is a little naive to believe that wining and dining will really change rankings... USNWR is fully aware that schools will will try to do just that. If that is all that you have to do get a higher rank, every school would do it...

Point out that they have erroneous data and show them the numbers to bolster your argument is one thing but just smoozing them will only draw their ire..

Others seem to have called you to task because you have the law of supply and demand totally screwed up but would you elaborate on even some of the other areas that we are behind other universities in the state?

It's one thing to question some acts or policies but to question everything that the university does is getting a little old. We have about three or four new posters that are totally negative toware this university. Are you from another school? Troll? What is your purpose? Dumpsalot? At least you chose the right name.

Okay, I will attempt to address the masses starting here:

Athletics, alumni support, school spirit, greek life, school recognition (inside but esp. outside of DFW), student attrition, poor turnout to events, to name a few - sure sure you could compare UNT to the Lamar's of the state, however, I am trying to think bigger than that.

Please don't confuse negativism with realism, sorry not everyone on the board lives in fantasy land.

HickoryHouse: "I can only speak for two areas, well maybe three.. but if you wanna ssay we fall behind in all areas you are selling the brilliance of this university short. Who else in Texas, hell the rest of the country, has a better Music school? I know most of us didn't experience or care about it, but it is a huge deal to alot of the "big money" alums! maybe Don Henly, i don't think he greaduated though... " - case and point

Risinggreen: "You're also forgetting about the quality of our School of Business, especially Accounting which was clearly top ten nationally when I graduated, as well as many other programs." - I think you are dreaming about this for the simple reason that if this were ever the case you can rest assured that UNT would certainly be posting this all over campus as well as their website. However, I will give you the benefit of the doubt and let you prove it somehow.

Adman: "Totally explains the Yugo's domination of the world car market. As well as the failure of the iPhone as a mobile phone device.

And to think I wasted so much time in school when I could have just gleaned the nuggets of Daddy Dumpsalot's knowledge. " - Avitar says it all

Green Nightmare: "I hate people that crap on the school they went to." - I understand your post but we differ on the word 'crap'.

UNTFlyer: ......quit spouting off wiki 'facts'

UNTLifer: .......Aren't you gone yet?? Haven't you gotten board of GMG yet? Make way for some new people.

wife2hot: $2k is A LOT of money. Esp. when you're talking about raising fees $25 a semester and kids are complaining.

Meangreendork: "Sometimes, I wonder why you're even on this board. I mean, when the team doesn't do well, or when the admin or whomever doesn't meet expectations, that's fine to hear and probably understandable. It's easy to see when the football program or golf falls on its face. It's a lot harder to say that for an entire college. " - Not sure I understand your post. Is that a question? statement?

GreenExes: "Consider this piling on! Sir, you are a GAS BAG! I'm going to bet you routinely got beat up during 3rd grade recess and you are currently getting abused during recreation time in some remote detention center! You are a little bit unhappy with life!" - Yes, you are correct. And your insults have really cut deep. I am now in a mild state of depression. I wish I could be like you - where all my friends are in cyberspace. Oh, and 'Gas Bag' is one word. And is your daughter too good for UNT?

Now that I have acquired many new friends. I am going to sit alone in a dark corner on this Valentines evening.

Please send me friend invites............please

Our RTVF program is pretty well thought of. KNTU is consistently recognized as a top collegiate radio station. The film program is considered one of the best undergrad ones in the southwest, if not the country(our graduate program is lacking though, we're trying to pump money into it), and funding for the TV side is picking up too.

Were number 7 in the nation for graduate programs in accounting according to this source.

We were also offered the 1st combined 5 yr BS/MS program in Accounting in the nation as well.

Let me apologize for my spelling error, and probable numerous other errors involved with my typing in my posts. Obviously they are the direct result of a failed education by an inferior university...

But I still think we can be friends!

RTVF grad here. I use my degree every day. I wish I had studied film more but I focused on tv/radio (and drinking). After visiting a few schools in Texas, I chose UNT b/c I thought I'd get more hands on experience. I was right. I know many grads from UT who know theory out the wazoo, but have very little practical experience.

My 2 cents.

Ok... this is going to be the LONGEST offseason ever. We're arguing about how we calculate friggin' enrollment figures. It has to stop.

godstop.jpg

On no, we have many other traditional off season talks that will take place; beginning with stadium talk  to mull over (wait till the new & official stadiium rendering comes out which will only start another fire-storm of posts on the "new stadium" subject (that is, if it is not kept top secret in one of UNT's archives vaults).:(

....we also have the "how we want the "N" and the "T" to relate to each other logo-style, that is, should they be completley disjointed or one letter on top of the other (& which letter would that abe?); ...........

...we will have the "LIDS" has yet another UNT cap & it is so-oooo..........sweeeet posts.

.....we also have the "RV is definitely going to leave UNT now rumor" which will be die about as quickly as it began once someone talks to RV and all he can do is roll his eyes back on yet another rumor he will dispell...

....we will have the "please don't ever bring up the name of Hayden Fry again" posters who for whatever reason still cannot (or just choose not) to fathom what the man really did for a generation of us to raise the Mean Green football barometer at UNT and.................. with those who hung around all this decades later still trying to use that as their present day barometer for Mean Green football; in fact, most of that group are Todd Dodge supporters albeit some have even hung him out to dry based on one season with (basically) most of someone elses recruits.

...we will also have a handful on GMG.com who will try to be UNT or Mean Green football history-changers or transitionists saying things about UNT or UNT athletics that is so "out there." They may even from time to time be corrected by those who actually were around campus when a revised history supposedly took place and then some will try to explain to the rest of this forum to enjoy all the fiction, but stick with what really happened.

...we will have Cerebus post an occasional (but much needed) reminder on GoMeanGreen.com to remind posters to quit posting about posters but to stay on the topic, please. (THANKS FOR THOSE REMINDERS, CEREBUS).

...Many of us will also wonder why Harry doesn't post as much as he used to then he will suddenly re-appear out of nowhere with a thread or 2. Moral of all that? POST MORE, HARRY!

...MeanGreen61 will continue coming up with "great find" stories hot off the press & will amaze many of us as we think to ourselves: "How does he come up with all that good stuff, anyhow?" :D

...Old Timer will continue to come up with recruiting tidbits that are most informative (and sometimes things we cannot even read in the Denton Record/Chronicle, DaMN or the FWST.

BUT..............FWIW...............we will all keep reading and posting on GoMeanGreen.com because we really all want to see this Mean Green ship succeed by sailing in better waters; some even want this ship to sail in un-chartered waters unseen in our entire athletic history.

Point well taken Plumm. I do need to post more often and I will try to. The podcasts (up to 38 now) have been my latest UNT related passion and they have been a lot of fun. I will try to post more as time will allow. If I am not on here you can probably guess it is due to work, kids sports events, church etc... rest assured I am on here all of the little extra time that I have!

Nice find Peacock. I graduated quite a few years back so I'm glad that I don't have to waste my time supplying hard evidence for some guy who spends all of his time on the toilet seat. Based on his attitude, somehow I think he takes his dumps somewhere outside of Denton. Btw, I initially saw the accounting program's top ten national ranking in a national publication which was passed around my Accounting 201 class back in the 80's. North Texas was ranked number nine and I believe UT-Austin was ranked number four. Since I was a General Business major at the time, that publication (and my GF's major) were very influential in my changing my major to accounting. "The Dumper" is correct that we should be advertising the quality of our accounting program (and others) more than we have in the past. It has been a nationally respected program for forty to fifty years now.

I too have an rtvf degree and am using it, I put more emphasis in film whle I was there becuase I was fortunate to have a tv program at my high school I am using the tv side right now... infact there are a lot of rtvf grads where I work as well as other media outlets in the metroplex. My choice for UNT was the same as yours hands on experience. Editing on a steenbeck, I mean that's the way to learn the principles of film editing.

Undergrad film school we rank high.

Graduate level we don't.

Most prestigious film programs(USC, NYU, AFI, Coulmbia, etc) are famous because of the graduate courses.
