not sure I would want him if he can not mature enough to focus on his grades, espcecially at a JUCO.

Why is it that when NT football recruits Alonzo Horton, a Rivals 4-star with a history of acdemic problems, it is seen as a great recruiting coup.

But when the NT BB program goes after a Rivals 4-star with a history of academic problems, some of our fans think it is a mistake.

My view is a great player in any sport is worth a calculated risk.

Horton has his associates...there seems to be a worry that Flemings will struggle to get his.

And the reason its more dangerous to pursue a grade risk in basketball rather than in football is that football rosters have 70 players...basketball gets 13. Losing a star in football isn't as significant as losing a star in basketball.

I'm still hesitant on Flemings. I've met him and played against him when he was visiting with Jai Steadman and his personality was very similar to Harold Edwards...he drifts in and out of his own world. I was also under-impressed with his ability...but that was after just one look...and based on his numbers at WJC I'll chalk that up to an off night.

Because Horton obviously proved he could succeed academically by getting is Associates Degree, while Fleming is still not focused on the books, as quoted by his current coach.

And Horton had to deal with a storm called Katrina. The struggles that Flemings is going through are self-induced.

Flemings was already here once and never played, so yes, there is some risk.

He sat because of Division 1 transfer rules...not as an academic casualty.

I would like a player of Flemings talent...but if the scholarship choice is between Flemings or Babb/Russell/McFarland...Rod comes in fourth.

Thanks for the good answers on Horton. He is no risk at all since he has an associate degree.

I have confidence that our coaches, Academics and Support Services and Compliance Administration will make the right decision on Flemings. I hope he does well and still wants to play here.

I say bring him back, if possible.. we need another consistent scorer to compliment white..

If JJ thinks he's worth the chance I agree. I wouldn't mind either if we could find a way to bring along his three point shooting Lithuanian friend. I've always thought that we should be keeping an eye out more for international talent. Unfortunately, we've got to find a big post guy in a major way, and I doubt that we can find the schollys to accomodate them all.

And he left because of academic issues.

Buford, I would love to see Flemings play for us, but he obviously needs to get his grades in order to ever see the court of a D1A program. I'm not saying Horton isn't a risk, but he did apply himself and earn an Associates Degree while dealing with the effects of Hurricane Katrina and qualify for a D1 program. Those would be two things that Flemings hasn't done yet.
