Here's some weights... and some more weights over here... here are some colorful weights... here are some lockers.

Way to go, FWST!

I bet the athletic dept was asked to provide photos and they said "uhm.. here are some I found on this 3.5" disk. take these. Those lockers look like they were at the Y in my home town. Why wouldn't any player want to go to UT or A&M, despite the fact that CS sucks?

---I am not so sure a few pictures from anywhere give much of a true picture of what the "environment" is at any school. A picture of the dorm, the stadium and perhaps a picture of locker-room/workout area and the practice fields might be helpful but not much. Sort of like the story of the blind men describing the elephant.

---Some have trashed TxTech somewhat unfairly ... It is a nice campus and can be pretty other than winter and early spring (unfortunately most of the school year is then). My complaint of there is that the buildings are so scattered that students has difficulty going from one class to the next because of distance between classes. I was a student there for one graduate year, the campus was designed by an idiot for classrooms unless one had all their classes in one building which freshman and sophomores never do. Plus that "travel" can be terribly cold or hot or wet or dirty depending on the weather. NT and UT is rather compact by comparison and A&M is not too bad. Tech in short can look good at times but is poorly designed. A lot of athletes look at the situation differently than most of us. Tech, UT, and the Aggies have nice large stadiums and do attract large crowds.... we don't. Some of them look at the academics and departments they will major in but some don't care at all. Unfortunately some people actually judge a school by its athletic program and nothing else...even non athletes. My son when transferring to NT said the NT computer labs (about 2000) were far superior to anything that A&M had for use at that time.... better and more modern equipment, he was a comp-sci major. Some will look at the surrounding area and location... we have Dallas, Tech has dirt fields, at A&M you get to sweat a lot in warm weather, very humid. As for location... Austin wins,. nice town, plus lots to do, and a lot of fan interest in sports and school spirit and you don't die of heat exhaustion or freeze crossing campus like you do in Lubbock.

---In short, a few pictures mean very little. I really loved NT, the classes, the profs, the students, and the area, just wish athletics was more successful... even when I was student basketball was a big deal in the MVC.. now it has declined a lot. Basketball games were wild and crazy with lots of nutty fans.

Yes, we do. Pay better attention and you could answer that yourself. <_<

I've been saying it for over 20 years that we don't promote ourselves near enough to the outside world. How many people outside of this website and the DRC knows about Abner Haynes and what he's about to be a part of? Plus, the photos allowed on the website should have been better edited by the AD dept. We have a long successful past and many things to be proud of and to promote. This subject just makes me sick, and to see our photos on the startlegram's site, compared to the other schools make it that much worse for me.

That's the problem. Based on that presentation if you are not an Alum or haven't been on campus or haven't been that interested you would have no idea what NT has. I know very well what NT has but couldn't tell it from that group of photos. There must not have been a limit on the number of pictures submitted. You can make Fouts look OK in photos with a little effort, the field is top notch, highlight that part.

      In no particular order: General We're a Carnegie-ranked Tier One public research university (only ~3.7% of all degree-granting institutions in the country have achieved this status). We're actively working on becoming an AAU university (currently only 69 universities). We have over 325,000 alumni who live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which is the fifth largest media market in the country. For reference: SMU has ~65,000 in the DFW metro TCU has ~82,000 in the DFW metro UTSA has ~150,000 worldwide Tulane has ~162,000 worldwide Memphis has ~165,000 worldwide Based on 2022 data, UNT is the 4th largest university in the state of Texas Texas A&M - 74,014 students The University of Texas at Austin - 52,384 University of Houston - 46,700 University of North Texas - 44,767 We currently have ~48,000 students in 2024, so there's a chance we may have surpassed University of Houston in student population or are close to passing them. For reference: 2024 Memphis Student Population: 21,736 2024 UTSA Student Population: 35,900 2024 Colorado State Student Population: 33,648 2024 Boise State Student Population: 22,408 2024 Oregon State Student Population: 32,722 2024 Washington State Student Population: ~30,000 Our campus quality has increased significantly in the past decade and is on par with the bottom half of P4 campuses (Arizona, Arizona State, etc.) with room to grow Our athletic facilities are comfortably on par with the likes of Colorado State, San Diego State, etc., and we have room to expand in a master-planned athletic village. In 2021, we beat a strong Purdue team to advance to the second round We won the 2023 NIT tournament after beating Alcorn, Sam Houston, Oklahoma St., Wisconsin, and UAB. In 2024, we went to the NIT and beat LSU in the first round. We lost to Seton Hall in the second round, and Seaton Hall went on to win the tournament. We've won 21 conference championships: 1921-22, 1922-23, 1925-26, 1926-27 (Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association) 1937-38, 1941-42, 1942-43, 1947-48 (Lone Star Conference) 1950-51, 1951-52, 1952-53, 1953-54 (Gulf Coast Conference) 1987-88, 1987-88#, 1988-89 (Southland Conference) 2006-07, 2009-10, 2009-10# (Sun Belt Conference) 2019-20, 2020-21#, 2021-22 (Conference USA) In the 2022-2023 season, UNT set a program record for regular season wins with 24 victories. This surpassed our previous record of 23 regular season wins set in the 2021-2022 season. We average 3,700 attendees per home game. For reference: UTSA: 1,051 avg. Texas St: 1,876 avg. Tulane: 1,188 avg. Florida Atlantic: 2,238 avg. South Florida: 3,142 avg. Are we a top SEC or BIG10 program with these metrics? Absolutely not. Have we punched above our weight as a holistic athletic department compared to the past 30+ years of lackluster conference arrangements and the lousy media money we've received (and still receive in AAC)? 100% yes. So, I will continue to argue that bring a lot of value to bring to the table. Why? Because we have a much better foundation to build on than the likes of UTSA, Texas State, Tulane, and Rice. And we have a much higher ceiling than the likes of Memphis, Oregon State, Washington State, Boise State, SMU, and TCU. There are two distinct reasons we haven't gotten closer to that ceiling yet: Too many years spent in poorly managed conferences like the Sun Belt and CUSA that provided little to no exposure and had very low media revenue sharing deals. This resulted in little to no money to expedite our program growth and no exposure to build our brand during our winning seasons. The wrong head football coaches. From the decline of Dickey, we've some how managed to string together Todd Doge, Dan McCarney, Seth Littrell, and now Eric Morris (TBD). The dodge years set us back a decade. McCarney started to turn things around and then he went downhill fast. Littrell had a great early run and then slipped into mediocrity. Morris inherited a conference championship appearance team, and a team that went toe-to-toe with Boise State under an interim head coach, and then proceeded to roll out the nations WORST defense in his first year. If we had just made even two solid hires that sustained success better than McCarney and Littrell, we'd be in a very different situation right now DESPITE not having received significant funds from our conferences. All this to say... The University of North Texas is still a sleeping giant. I'm confident that in the right conference environment with the right string of coaches, there's no reason we can't become a top-tier BIG12 or ACC program in the next decade.
