Denton is covered in a giant smoke cloud, so I wanted to see if I could find anything exact out. All I found was brush fire reporting, but I did find this interesting:

N. Texas Church Hands Apartment Tenants Notices

Douglas Square Apartment Residents Must Be Out By Feb. 29

Reporting

Brooke Richie

DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―

It wasn't the Christmas present anyone expected. Especially for an apartment complex owned, through a subsidiary, by St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church.

"A pre-Christmas bombshell like this really caught everyone off-guard," tenant Mosanna Haschke says.

Shelley Butler moved to Douglas Square Apartments for the school. They live in Dallas but are part of the Highland Park School District. Her son, Wheeler, is in the 6th grade.

"I wanted to stay in the Highland Park school district, and the price was good," she said.

"I freaked out. I was sad and I was disappointed," says of the notice to move. "I thought the church handled it in a really careless way."

Now, she and more than 50 of her neighbors are looking for new homes. Some, are elderly and in ill health.

"I was just absolutely buffaloed ... I just thought, 'it must be some mistake,' " says one of these residents who did not want to be identified.

The president of the church's governing board says they need the land for a parking lot. They will soon lose 200 spots from a lot across the street. He says it was a difficult decision, but they tried to give residents as much notice as possible.

Tenants, however, say they could have done much more.

"They've just been really inconsiderate in the way that they've treated us," Butler adds.

Tenants were offered a 20-day credit for their February rent, but they believe their last 60 days should have been free for the inconvenience and short eviction notice.

I'm sure it's a perfectly legal thing to do, but it isn't really the nicest thing to do. Giving people only a month's notice when a tenant would have to give 60 days notice before leaving and have to pay a fee for breaking the lease is a bit unfair. All I have to say is, "Hey, thanks for being wonderful servants of God and helping us out."

These folks got their notices.....before Christmas. They don't have to be out until February 29......that's over 60 days.

I'm certainly not trying to tell the church what to do. But, if a few of those sick, elderly tenants were to "accidentally" fall down a flight of stairs (or two)...it would go a long way toward getting the point across, that you mean business.

It's just a suggestion.
