No team, no stadium, no coach yet, but they should have "no problem" getting into a BCS conference....

http://www.charlotte.com/niners/story/464640.html

And they didn't name another conference they'd been in before as a possible ticket to the BCS?

Will BCS get too crowded for the Big Boys (once again)? "Well.............one time the NCAA used stadium capacity to separate the wheat from the chaffe; wonder if they might do that again in the near future if they want to do some cull'in' ?

Yes, I know that Charlotte has delusions of grandeur but that could work to our advantage in the future. I said could even though the chances are remote.

Charlotte has been in both CUSA and the Sun Belt. CUSA is already at 12 teams and wouldn't be interested but if we could take them in the Belt, and, along with South Alabama that would give the Belt 11 teams in 2012 (...14 whatever). Then we divide CUSA and the Sun Belt along geographical lines. The twelve most eastern teams would be in one conference and the 11 westernmost teams in another. Then the west adds Louisiana Tech and voila! two more closely aligned regional conferences.

Yes, I know, the eastern folks would get nearly all of the newer FBS teams. The easternmost would be Marshall, East Carolina, Charlotte, Central Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, UAB, Troy, South Alabama, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, and Southern Miss. Still, except for the two newbie unknowns, not a bad conference in terms of strength.

The west would then consist of Tulsa, UTEP, North Texas, SMU, Houston, Rice, UL-Lafayette, UL-Monroe, Tulane, Arkansas State, Memphis and Louisiana Tech. Even though La Tech would be in the same conference with UL-Monroe, they'd still have to like that alignment. No world beaters there either but at least travel-friendly.
