---Funny but sad.... Some parents want to live their life through their kid.... The pushy parents of some who think their kids are "super-star" athletes and the women who put their little girls in all the nutty "beauty" pagents. Once stayed in a hotel that one of these pagents was taking place.. I felt sorry for those poor kids. It was pretty obvious that most would rather be doing something else.

---I also get tickled at these parents who spend a fortune on athletic camps so their kid can be in a postion to be a pro or get college schlorships... [i have heard a lot of state exactly that, most don't] There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing it for fun and hoping to get lucky but not with the expection of getting a BIG payoff. The money could be better spent on a better education instead. There are a lot more doctors, lawyers, engineers, businessmen than pro athletes and they will make more money (lifetime) than the most of the few athletes do.

Funny but sad.... Some parents want to live their life through their kid.... Once stayed in a hotel that one of these pagents was taking place.. I felt sorry for those poor kids. It was pretty obvious that most would rather be doing something else.

Parents who fly into a rage over their children's performance or a referee or coach, need to get a life ASAP. It's pretty pathetic to live ones life through the children.

---Absolutely agree... one situation I was in was bad as well... My older son had a baseball coach that thought he was the next "Lombarde"... the guy was nuts and treated kids awful... He was banned from coaching the next year and before that year was over he was even banned from even attending games. He could watch from his car. Unfortunately some of these nutty parents want to coach. He had coached at the HS level a while... I think they fired him, probably same reason... I don't think he could keep any job he had, at anything...he left town after 4-5 years... I doubt anyone would hire him anymore.

My wife teaches journalism at Keller-Fossil Ridge and has told me more than a few unreasonable parent stories. Of course, there are many good parents out there, but usually they don't have much to say to coaches and teachers.

Julian LaDay's mother came to Fossil Ridge's open house and gave my wife her phone and e-mail numbers with instructions to contact her immediately if he caused any problems. It is no surprise Julian became one of my wife's favorite students. He was always a perfect gentleman and with the program academically.

Julian also does well in basketball. The 6-1 Jr point guard is the leader in both steals and assists of all 4-A schools in the Star-Telegram area. His team is 20-3 and 10-0 in district 4A-6 according to the DMN.

I personally know a few people on this list, but one of them I know extremely well. Rick Roberts is my brother's best friend and I've known RJ since he was born. You couldn't meet two nicer people. Big Rick loves his basketball and his son, but he's not one of those overbearing, do or die type of parents. His son is very good and every once and a while Big Rick brings it up in a conversation.
