The SMU football offices are buzzing these days as June Jones, only here since Tuesday, is trying to settle in.

One of his biggest priorities is hiring a staff. Several coaches are already here with him from Hawaii:

*Dennis McKnight, offensive line and special teams

*Wes Suan, running backs

*Dan Morrison, quarterbacks (father-in-law of former SMU and Cowboys player Donald Mitchell)

Jeff Reinebold, who coached the defensive line at Hawaii, is expected to arrive this weekend.

Jones is also bringing in Bert Hill, a former assistant with the Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins.

The most high-profile opening is that of defensive coordinator. Jones wanted Greg McMackin to come with him from Hawaii, but McMackin was hired as the Warriors’ head coach today.

Jones said he’s discussing the position with three candidates and should make a decision by early next week.

Jones is scheduled to have his first meeting with the team this afternoon, and he’ll be announced during the first half of the men’s basketball team’s game tonight against Houston.
