Home Opener, Sept. 6th....versus Tulsa?

Anyway, it looks that way. It's in a story about Tulsa getting a game with Arkansas next year. From the DMNews blog:

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa University will play Arkansas in football in 2008, the Tulsa World reported Saturday.

Citing sources at TU, the newspaper reported the game is scheduled for Nov. 1 in Fayetteville, Ark.

TU tentatively completed its nonconference schedule with games at North Texas (Sept. 6) and against New Mexico (Sept. 20) and Central Arkansas (Sept. 27) in the renovated Chapman Stadium.

A spokesman for the TU athletic department said Saturday he couldn't confirm the report.

"We haven't released our schedule yet and probably won't release it until next week," sports information director Don Tomkalski said, "but there have been discussions between the two schools."

Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham was unavailable for comment Saturday, Tomkalski said.

The TU-Arkansas game will reunite Gus Malzahn and the Razorbacks. Malzahn spent one season as the Hogs' offensive coordinator before leaving to take the same position at TU in 2007. His unit led the nation in total offense.

The TU-Arkansas game is a one-game contract. The Hogs aren't slated for a return trip.

Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long wouldn't confirm the game on Friday night.

"Our schedule is not complete for 2008," Long told the newspaper while attending the Arkansas Invitational indoor track meet at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track. "We are still working on it. When it's complete, we will release it."

It will be the 71st meeting between the schools. Arkansas leads the series 51-16-3.

That game could be Tulsa's first game of the year.....unless they were to have a conference game on August 30.

Do not be suprise if we open on the road Aug 31 at LSU... But that will be a nice home opener, we should have a great crowd. They will be coming off a huge bowl win, and we need to pay them back from there last visit to Denton.

We open at LSU on Aug. 30 (Troy plays at LSU the following week)....

Tulsa has a contract to open the 08 season with Texas Tech , they notified Tech last week they were going to play Ark. instead. Needless to say Tech is quite upset about this situation.
