A Request To The Board Administrators

Recommended Posts

Why don't you create a political section on the board? I was under the impression that we couldn't talk politics on the football board, or other sports related UNT talk. In fact, posters were told to take their political threads that appeared on the football board over to the non-UNT sports board. The "Hillary" thread I started on the non-sports board was been locked.

So let me get this straight, we can let posters discuss, joke, or make suggestive comments regarding "sexual preference" and "dick jokes", etc., but we can't talk politics. Is this correct? I just want to be clear.

1) Users get banned all the time for "dick jokes". Very rarely do users get banned for starting a political thread.

2) Admins don't read every thread. It is *really* easy to spot a political thread... it grows unbounded within 15 minutes. The title has a misspelled name, disses one political party, has a 'lol' it in it... etc etc. So it is easier to spot and easier to lock down.

3) Both type of threads get locked when brought to our attention. Most of the time politic threads are reported.. They are easily the most reported types of posts.

4) Any amount of administrating causes people to think their side is being picked upon. "woe is me. obviously they locked this thread because it made jokes about liberals." That isn't the case.

Clear?

Just to add: Admin's really don't have the time to read every single thread. If a thread that you consider inappropriate isn't locked down, there is a good chance none of the admins have seen it. Report it.

Also, we don't discuss politics on here (or other divisive issues like abortion, the albino squirrel or what exactly holds Jimmy Johnson's hair up) for the same reason (most) people don't discuss it around the Thanksgiving dinner table: This site is intended to bring people TOGETHER in their Mean Green Love, not drive them apart.

I think most understand the rules...however if you look at other boards they provide a section for political discussion...and in this, an election year, I think the political discussion is on the mind of many...as proven by how quickly and how large those particular threads grew.

For the most part...these political threads have avoided personal attacks towards individual board members as I believe that is the major concern over political based threads. It seems a trial run at a political heading seems warranted.

Political discussion is not what this board is for. This board also doesn't cover rebuilding Mark IV Big Block V8's, the merits of Rationalism/Empiricism versus Existentialism or the mating habits of saltwater limpets. There are boards that cover all those topics (seriously), and users who want to engage in those discussions should go there.

This board is made to bring Mean Green fans together to talk about Mean Green Athletics. Politics is a deeply divisve issue and in the opinion of the admin's should be avoided.

Welp...thanks for taking the request seriously.

CBL, this board did exist before 10-April 07. :)

This is something Harry and I spoke about years ago. It was a difficult decision, but I think we made the right one. Like I have said over and over, the whole point of this board is to bring people together, not divide them. Politics is divisive.

I already have an inbox full email from the few political posts that were already made.

You wont catch me talking politics because honestly i dont follow them but is it necc. to strike down the fun threads in the non-sports forum. we have some good banter over here and nobody outside of the 10-15 people that take part read this forum anyways... just curious....

Sent you a PM.

Cerebus,

The fun threads are...well...off color and fun. C'mon, leave them 'til they get too weird!

Also, since he won't comment on it, can you or JohnDenver give me an update on Illuvius32's toothbrush 'stache? He is a hairy beast, so it is surely growing in nicely.

I would like to know who the board administrator's are?

I believe the admins are Harry, Cerebus, John Denver and illuvius32

Have the names (handles) changed over the years?

I don't think so.

Right....

For the record, senor UNT_92_Fan offered to dress up like Mariah Carey and sing Wind Beneath My Wings to Jaydub at the 50 yard line of the gmg bowl... if we raise $500... who is in?

Wow that does not sound like a pretty sight, but I may have an extra buck or two for such described show.

A link that shows all the current admins can be found here

No, we've added some people, but the names of the current admins have never changed. I did have a different user name on the board before we went to invision.
