Some of us old fossils remember the later Hayden Fry years when he pulled us out of the Missouri Valley Conference and went Independent. It was a mess. There are a few teams that can make it as an Independent - Notre Dame, Army, Navy - but North Texas is not one of them.

Any one know what the financial impact it would have not being in the Sunbelt?

Seems to me that the football stadium would better served and the respectability would be enhanced by playing Boise, Fresno, Houston, TCU, Iowa State, Tulsa, SMU, Southern Mississippi, Central Florida, Duke, Wake Forest and so forth (if possible) than playing ULM, ULL, FIU, W. Kentucky, etc.

Blah Blah Blah. Just a couple years ago, no one wanted to be associated with the lowly NOLA Bowl. But we've said it time and again, its hands down about the best desitination point there is for the oh, so, lowly level bowls. Now those guys on there are drooling all over the bowl.

Build the Belt. Build the NOLA Bowl. People are taking notice. Our red hair is starting to fade ... a little more like blond with a reddish tint. :)

Interesting quote by a poster on that board about last year and this year were the 2nd and 3rd highest attendance years. Well, they were wrong! UNT helped bring the 1st and 2nd highest attendance.

1. 2004 - 27,253 - Southern Mississippi vs. North Texas

2. 2001 - 27,004 - Colorado State vs. North Texas

3. 2006 - 26,423 - Rice University vs. Troy University

4. 2003 - 25,184 - Memphis vs. North Texas

5. 2007 - 25,146 - FAU Vs. Memphis

6. 2002 - 19,024 - North Texas vs. Cincinnati

7. 2005 - 18,338 - Southern Mississippi vs. Arkansas St. -- Played in Lafayette due to Katrina

I dont care how good FIU and FAU are or ever will be- they suck as conference mates. Neither school travels well and neither hold any regional appeal to our fan base.

This guy with all the inside info on how the Sun Belt will get booted out of the New Orleans Bowl is an asshat.

I'm not sure what makes C-USA think they are God's gift to mid major conferences, but they are an average-at-best conference from top to bottom. My interest in being in C-USA stems purely from bowl tie-ins and regional rivalry. Nothing more, nothing less.

Additionally, I think it's about time we made our way back to New Orleans- for the next 4 years.

Didn't the Sunbelt help to start that Bowl Game?? I dont think that ya'll have anything to worry about. New Orleans is a great place for a bowl game. I think that there were several reasons for the low attendance this year. Many fans dont travel well to the bowl games but the community supports the games. New Orleans had what 3 bowl games this year. AND did you notice how many empty seats there were last night? It was not a sell out and it was for the National Championship.

I dont think that CUSA thinks of themselves of the Gods of Mid Majors. Most of us realize that we have been down since sending 3 teams to the Big East. But there have been several very good hires in CUSA this year and last. We look to be on top of things in a couple of years but we certainly were not this year.

I wouldn't say UNT helped bring in the 2nd highest attendance for the 2001 bowl game. I remember that game being almost a home game for CSU and barely enough NT fans to fill in the middle of the bottom section...

Interesting...when you click on the 'Box Score' link in ESPN for this game it takes you back to the scores page!!!

Either you weren't at that game or you were severly impaired when you made that observation. CSU brought *MAYBE* 1-2k fans....and I sat in the middle tier b/c the lower tier on the NT side was full (except for the endzones). I think that 27k number is a joke, b/c there were probably 12-15k actual fans in the stands.
