I have been told that DeLoach will be interviewed.

Maybe Deloach found that the grass isn't always greener(pun intended) at higher profile schools(UCLA). It would be a coup if we could sign him.

Wow, where did you hear that? Did Dodge ever work with DeLoach at UNT? It would be nice for the new DC to have some Texas background for recruiting purposes.

If Deloach is interested, the search can stop right there. Unlike last year's underachieving UNT defense, our defense in the past under Deloach had always overachieved IMHO.

Come back Gary and lead us to the promised land with TD......please !

Ron English would be a great hire too. I forgot he was unemployed.

DMN reported today in College Transactions that Ron English was hired by Louisville as asst coach.

Please don't get my hopes up. I can't emphasize enough how good of coach DeLoach is. Like FFR said in another post, the defense of 2002 was amazing. We ranked in the top 10 in the nation in several catagories. We held Cedric Benson to 58 yds. rushing, sacked Sims eight times, and only gave up 214 yds total offense (I think those numbers are right). That unit was one of the most well coached units I have ever seen. If DeLoach comes back and stays for an extended period of time, I can promise, great things will happen to this program.

Agreed, we need someone with ties to the Texas area. Recruiting is the lifeblood of a program, so having ties to areas or schools is a must.

What area did DeLoach recruit when he was here? Hopefully Houston area, as we need to dip into this area, and the Golden Triangle.

I didn't actually think this was a possibility...I'm just a Michigan fan and just the thought of a former UM coach coming to UNT gets my happy pants going crazy.

The main reason that I think that DeLoach would be a good hire (besides his previous success here) is that he has been here before and knows about the culture at North Texas. No one else seems to think that this is important, but North Texas can be a culture shock for a coach......even a High School coach. One of the reasons that I liked the Dodge hire was that he spent two years here and knew what he was getting himself into when he took the job.

I don't think that DD ever understood North Texas, and didn't have a clue as to the best way to help improve the program.

That's an interesting point SE.

As for other candidates for DC what about Larry MacDuff. He just resigned from Texas sighting philosophical differences. At Texas he was Co-DC and LB coach. Prior to that he was the originator of Arizona's "Desert Swarm" defense back in the 90's and also coached Special Teams for the NY Football Giants for three years. Not a bad resume.

I remember hearing about MacDuff just around the time the resignation rumors started to fly. He's got a good resume and good ties to Texas as well as a few other states. He'd be a great pickup if he's not bothered by the culture here.

DeLoach would be a great hire. The fans would (assuming it's publicized right) love the return of the coach of the Green Curtain defense, and I think the players would follow a guy like this to the ends of the earth. I could use another game that breaks or ties the NCAA records for safeties. But you know, don't get my heart all worked up if he's not gonna interview :(

Did you watch the game?

I would guess that UT's average starting field position in that first half was on our side of the field. For a defense to only give up 28 points in that first half was amazing. Not to mention that once the offense at least started to move the ball a little in the second half, our defense really started to dominate the Texas offense. It was truely amazing to watch.
