Former Unt & Nfl Nose Tackle Dies

Did anyone else see or hear that Tony Elliott (a UNT and New Orleans Saint nose tackle in the 80's) has passed away? The paper said that he was 48 and was "later paralyzed in a shooting". This is a sad event for the Mean Green Nation. Let's all keep Tony Elliott and his family in our thoughts and prayers.

He played two years at North Texas (80 & 81), after he transferred from a B-10 school (Indiana or Illinois). I suspect he was asked to leave. I remember that after our game with Texas (we lost 23-10......boy aren't those the days!), Tony was quoted as saying that he wasn't the least bit impressed with Texas, and their level of talent. I suppose he was asked that question because he had played in the B-10 and the reporter was curious as to how our best stacked up against the B-10.

I don't ever remember him doing anything for NT after he left.

University of Wisconson at Madison according to this article. It also says he passed 3 classes in 4 semesters at NT...depressing story. Bridgeport is definitely a little rough around the edges (if you know what I mean). I don't live too far from there and will venture in for a minor league hockey or baseball game and use the train station to get into Manhattan, but it's not a place I'd want to be wandering around at night. They are trying to clean it up and redevelop some of the areas, but it has a long history of corruption.

Wow...what a story...tough road, but he made his choices. So sad to see this kind of talent go to waste...seems from the article that he could (maybe he did) have made a real positive difference in some young person's life. Don't know, but it is a sad day for the Mean Green Nation...it didn't have to end up this way!
