(from the DMNews blog):

While SMU appears to have targeted Hawaii coach June Jones, the school has also recently had talks with Mike Martz, according to a source familiar with the school's search.

The Detroit Lions reportedly fired Martz, their offensive coordinator for two seasons, on Wednesday.

Martz is the former St. Louis Rams coach credited for "The Greatest Show on Turf."

His last stint in the college ranks ended in 1991 as Arizona State's offensive coordinator, with Martz moving on to the NFL.

SMU was the first Bowl Subdivision program to make a coaching change when it fired Phil Bennett on Oct. 28. With West Virginia's reported plan to announce Bill Stewart as head coach today, SMU is the last remaining school with an opening.
