I think the game will be a good game to watch, but, I

am worried about the attendence.

The stands may be empty. Could be down right

embarressing to the SBC.

I will guess, with a heap of generosity, 21,500.

With Memphis selling around 4K tickets and FAU selling around 700 and the media saying 29K tickets have been distributed, it sounds really dismal for attendance. Maybe 18K ???

I expect FAU to manhandle Memphis; it is Schnellie's first nationally televised bowl game at FAU and the school's first ever bowl game. Memphis appears to be approaching the game the same way Troy approached their FAU game at Troy.

What I suspect will happen is this: We will watch the game, and think to ourselves, "Man, there is nobody there."

But the boxscore will claim that the crowd was 17,000 or more.

Agreed. This will be one of those games where ESPN uses nothing but extreme close-ups of the coaching staff and bench instead of wide-angle views to show the crowd and atmosphere...

According to this mornings paper 29,000 tickets have already been sold.

29,000 tickets have been distributed....whatever that means.

I imagine, for example....that 5,100 were distributed to FAU. Unfortunately, they've only sold 1200.

So, just because 29,000 have been distributed...doesn't mean they've sold 29,000. Far from it, I suspect.

Announced: 19,746

Actual: 8, 245

Is that another estimate, or the exact amount?

Overall this whole thing is nearly depressing. Fingers crossed for any chance at another SBC bowl.

Those were pre-game guesses. Announced attendance was 25,000+, actual was more like 13,000.

It was better than 13 but I don't think there were 25K there. the Memphis side really filled up. The FAU crowd reminded me of the Cincy crowd back in 2002. The difference this year was having more "locals" there. The end zones had a lot of people (relatively speaking) and the 2nd level above the Memphis side had a decent crowd. I would guess between 18-20K really there.

There were definitely more FAU fans then Cinci fans. I have a copy of that bowl game and there were MAYBE 300 Cinci fans there. They didn't even travel their full band. I don't know the actual attendance for this year but it looked fine on TV. The camera pans did a great job of making it look full. The Memphis side was very filled in, easily 8K there. Maybe the actual attendance was 15K? I don't know - but what could have been a disaster was averted by smart scheduling in choosing Memphis. I don't care what place they were in CUSA - they brought a GREAT crowd and saved the day. FAU pulled off the game and the bowl is starting to develop the way it is supposed to - to showcase Sun Belt football as a legitimate IA conference. We have won the last two straight with convincing vistories and CUSA might want to send a better team unless they don't mind getting embarrased on National TV each year.
