I finished recording a pod cast with Harry and Evan of gomeangreen.com fame a few minutes ago and realized I had forgotten to put a pretty good piece of information out on the blog yesterday.

Southlake Carroll quarterback Riley Dodge is not going to transfer to UNT at the semester break. It turns out he and his dad, UNT head coach Todd Dodge, made that decision weeks ago, long before Riley injured his throwing shoulder in the high school playoffs.

I found out Riley was staying put at Carroll while working on the winter edition of Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine. I am not sure when it will come out, but the magazine is now going to be a twice-a-year publication.

Information on who is at UNT for recruiting visits this weekend has been hard to come by, but I did pick out Flower Mound running back Tyler Pritchard walking through the parking lot of the Mean Green Athletic Center on Friday.

so is Riley just going to sit out and rehab or what gives?

Strange goings ons right now at UNT.

Nope, you didn't read close enough. The decision was made before he injured his shoulder. I suspect that this is a way to get an "extra" semester of red shirting in. This will put 18 months in between Rodge and Vizza.

This may be true. Once he enrolls in college his "5 years to play 4" starts.

good piont did not think of it that, but this does seem like Riley will RS next year for sure.

The extra semester really doesnt make a difference

I think this means that Todd Dodge decided that Vizza is going to be the starter next year and Riley didnt have a chance to getting it. Now instead of coming in and wasting the best part of his senior year, he can now enjoy it and once he gets here he will redshirt and still be at the same point this time next year as he would of if he would of enrolled in December

      - I like the starting 5 here... (that backcourt is scary as hell), although you gotta make JJ a starter over Tylor for ~2-3minutes to set the tone, right? It's how McCasland/Hodge & Tylor would have it. - People in this thread are really forgetting just how good Wooly was. He is a must-have. And I think since you have him (sparkplug, instant-offense, drive/shoot-first PG), I think I might swap Mo for a floor-stretching Aaron Scott. Otherwise, you're really running out of minutes for ball-handling G's, and as much as I loved Mo, I don't want him to eat too many of Javion/Tylor/Wooly's minutes. ...Speaking of forgetting how good someone was... - I think if you could guarantee me I'd get '17-18 Smart, I'm rolling with him over Rondell. And I'm starting him, and my team is friggin shooting the lights out. - I'm gonna swap Kai for Mardrez McBride since his 3pt% is a little higher while they were wearing Green. - I also don't know that I'd put Lorient over Ousmane. Since you have Bell (and I added Scott), you really only have Simmons & Allen for rim protection. Might be good to go 1 deeper there (especially if this hypothetical team is going against a dude like Lofton). But Lorient/Ousmane, either/or, I'm fine. - JJ is a must for that Defensive Dog mentality that marks these teams over the past 9 years, & DJ for the same, plus that career 40+ 3pt% in case you need it. Give me: Starting 5 - Javion, JJ, Smart, Bell, Simmons Bench - Tylor, Rubin, Woolridge, AScott, Drez, Allen, Draper, Ousmane/Lorient EDIT: Tough to leave dudes like Mo, Lorient/Ousmane, Reese, Kai, Edwards, Geu, & Mike Miller off the team.

      Around the League / UNT Opponents

      After watching several of our opponents play in conference play, we farted around too much as a league in OOC play. We are a much better league than our OOC record suggests. But, as the saying goes... You are what your record says you are.

      Seems accurate to me. We finished 6-7. Every school ranked higher had a winning record. Why do we deserve to be ranked ahead of any of them?
