...let the debate begin on your statements...

Since 2000, how many titles have come out of West Texas? Since 1990, how many titles have come out of West Texas.

In all classes you have a possibility of 14 State Champions since 2000...In 5A, your 'Little Southworst Conference' and all of West Texas has produced 1 out of 14 since 2000.

In the decade of the 1990's, West Texas produced a mighty grand total of 3 out of 20 potential champions in class 5A.

GREAT JOB WEST TEXAS! What a mighty powerhouse, completely dominating...NOT!

Dude, it's not even close. West Texas is the 2nd worst area for HS football in Texas behind the Rio Grande Valley.

And what percentage of 5A schools reside in West Texas? Don't have the time at the moment to do the research, but it's pretty small. Recruiting is such an inexact science that it's ridiculous to try and narrow it down by region or even school classification. I say let's find the best players wherever they reside. Hell, look at the Cowboy's roster. It's got plenty of guys that were basically "Rivals rejects" (including Romo) and they seem to be doing pretty well.

I think we can look forward to a good recruiting class for Coach dodge this year...But as a "wise man once said"...."IT AIN'T OVER UNTIL IT'S OVER". Let's wait and see who actually signs and who does not. Lots of posturing still going on....GO MEAN GREEN!

Which got me to looking. Of the 2-star recruits; most of them are rated at a 5.4. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of this recruiting season pans out.

If you believe in all the Rivals stars mumbo-jumbo which I do, all this is very good. A 5.4 is only .1 away from a 3* So we are .4 away from having 6 3* recruits. Under DD we would end up with mostly 5.1 & 5.2 recruits. At this point we only have 1 5.1 and 3 5.2 recrutis. Once again if you believe in all that nonsense.

You'll have to reserve judgement for four years to see how the recruits' actual careers turn out.

You should practice what you preach.

The big city versus "the sticks" argument is stupid. There are excellent player in both areas. You can't abandon one totally for the other. This coaching staff has chosen to concentrate on DFW. It's a stupid strategy, because the best in the big cities are snapped up by schools in bigger conferences, but they're committed to it.

To throw another curve ball into the conversation...this is a minor point but...companies the produce licensed merchandise for schools tend to pick conferences as a basis for production. The conferences that most likely are left out are MAC and SBC. Check out national stores that have some collegiate merchandise and see how the confeences play a part in what is available. As an example, my daughter and I went to Home Depot to get paint. I noticed Glidden has a chart of paint colors for NFL, NBS, NASCAR and Collegiate. The colors were by conference, guess which conferences were not listed. YES, this is one example but there are many. Sometimes it has nohing to do with how well the teams play. I think we are going to paint her room Idaho Vandal colors. :P

Good point. It's not just for football but for marketing the program also. Try telling someone what/where a FIU is.

And does UNT hang in there the next 10 years it will probably take to change perceptions of the SBC? FWIW...............we don't owe Wright Waters anything nor do we owe anything to any other SBC schools. As GrayEageOne posted a couple weeks ago and I liberally paraphrase him: "If UNT has had a short-coming in the past we stay the course longer than we should have." And what I believe GrayEagleOne meant' (and he'll correct me if I'm wrong) was that UNT hung in there too long with "go nowhere" situations that kept us in our place and seems to always have us on the outside looking in...............also, a situaiton that has us in the Sun Belt Conference with (basically) a bunch of other schools who also didn't have any where else to go.

Memphis, Louisville, Houston, Cincinatti, Southern Miss, South Florida, Central Florida, (and yes) even Florida State were at our level at one time in NCAA D1 football--they all went forward with their football programs while North Texas "stayed the course" went on a 30 plus year roller coaster ride of not one ranked varsity sport while staying the course of whatever you want to have called our those courses but nevertheless, such a course that has us in the Sun Belt Conference. And while in the SBC non-ending threads forever wishin' & hope'n for better things than where we are now. Yet when we have a chance to go outside our box (a WAC invite) so we in the name of "whatever" once again stay the course continueing with a league that still just has 1 bowl (maybe 2 bowls in the future).

If we stay the course in the SBC, I believe we will eventually see 1 or 2 (maybe 3) other SBC leave us behind and maybe even go the way of Memphis, Louisville, Houston, Cincinatti, Southern Miss, South Florida, Central Florida (and yes) Florida State, too. (We seem to more than have our role or part down pat in this long running play that I guess we could call "And They Stayed The Course, Of Course."

Go with Pittsburgh Paints considering they painted our stadium for free. Mr. Hardin would probably mix you up a batch of NT green.

no doubt, if for no other reason that population density.

You that part right... there are more athletes ... but necessarily better. there is only ONE AAAAA district out here, two if you count the one with Lubbock/Amarillo which are not as good. The El Paso area is a lot like the Rio grande not good at all, we don't even consider them at all like us... LubbockAmarillo is much different as well... very little oil, mostly agricultural area.

When you consider we should win only 1/32 of the State titles we greatly exceed that one. Plus if you consider the number of times this area make to finals is is even more lopsided... [ we have to defeat the Metroplex and East Texas to get there] .. I notice the guy ignored San Antonio... they have produced a huge amount of good athletes [Detmers for example] and Converse and some others schools really win a lot.... Converse has defeated both Midland Lee and Midland High in AAAAA finals..

Also, newsflash to the DRC "journalist"...Bristow, Oklahoma is a bout 30 miles from Tulsa and 60 from OKC. Mentioning how the distance between Bristow and OKC is like saying Granbury is about an hour outside of Dallas, when it's just 30 miles from Fort Worth. Seriously.

Yeah, like when Kentucky came in and....no wait. That doesn't always happen.

The MWC didn't offer us membership.

So we should take up whoever offers us membership? If the Southland Conference offered us membership, would that make them a better conference? No, taht "logic" just doesn't hold water.

One of the conference points taht some people conveniently overlook is how much the Sunbelt has grown; and continues to become more competitive (inside the conference, and out). This thing is starting to get its legs under it.

I strongly disagree. He was definitely one of our better O-line prospects.

Troy Franklin and Coleman Feeley both are rated higher then him while having the same, if not better size then him tho
