Lean times at UNT

A crowd of 10,129 actually paid to watch the last college football game at Miami’s Orange Bowl last Saturday night between the very bottom denizens of the Los Angeles Times’ Steve Harvey’s Division I Bottom Ten teams: The Lean Green of North Texas and the Golden Panthers (I wonder if the San Diego Zoo has a panther with a gold coat?) of Florida International University.

Actually, this game was a dream come true for both athletic programs. They played in this year’s first college bowl game: The Toilet Bowl.

Flush with the satisfaction — UNT surged below fired former football coach Darrell Dickey’s Utah State — Athletic Director Rick Villarreal’s buttons virtually are popping off of his shirt knowing next season’s opening game will not be with the University of Miami but instead UNT will begin its defense of the Bottom Ten title with the real possibility of playing the defending national Champions, LSU.

My condolences to coach Dodge. How can he recruit bona-fide Division I players with the situation at UNT being what it is? Presently, he has only one Texas Rival’s top 100 recruit’s commitment for next season: His son.

hmm really not surprised by this typical Denton jacka$$. So funny these city pundits hate the university but would be the first to bitch if the University and the millions of $$$ left town.

Guess he can go cheer for his bandwagon teams like A&M or Texas

What happened to the ESPN.com Bottom Ten poll? The column hasn't been updated since November 14th, which is really good news for us. I've been waiting for the inevitable since our last loss.

I can't say that I'm interested in a LA Times column on the subject.

Yawn....

Only A Theory: Probably just another bitter Dentonite who can't get on the UNT state teat as one of our un-productives (which I'd say are minimal these days) or cannot get 1 or 2 out of approx. 35,000 UNT students to whip out their MC's or Visas to spend their monies with him--of course--only a theory.

Take 45,000 college students out of Denton & you have what amounts to a not so very pretty site of a town that would truly merely be called a bedroom community to Dallas & Fort Worth.

And Mr. Horrell..............at the rate UNT, Denton and Denton County are growing, there are about 15 newcomers who could fill your most always (I'm sure) empty seat at the Mean Green Village at our future new stadium. The attitude of your letter we've heard before, but you, sir, are like a pimple on an elephant's butt fighting something much, much larger than you & your "old school" Denton attitude.

Who knows, sir, if you live in or close enough to the Denia Neighborhood (adjacent to our sprawling MG sports complex) maybe you can get Mean Green fans on Game Day to spend $10 to park in your yard so you can at least milk something out of the University of North Texas, ya' think? (Again, just a theory with all this).

Man, since he hates UNT so much, I bet he'd like it if all of the students and their (and their mom and dad's) disposable income left town, too. See you later, Super Target. Bye bye, Best Buy. Adios to all the big consumer stores. Just close all the restaurants and bars that the students visit. Shut down all the bus lines since students get a lot of use out of that, too. And yeah, Dodge doesn't have the best situation, but Horrell is just spouting words out of the same place he spouts excrement, so we all know how much real thinking went into this.

Or maybe he just hates anyone younger and anyone smarter than he is.

He probably can't. I doubt he knows a single thing about our program other than what he reads. I wonder where he lives?

Rick

Anyone keeping track of these names? Lets plan a thank you letter for these folks when we pull off our first game attended by 50K.
