I spoke with Laura Raadt, with the UNT Purchasing and Payment Services, who is managing the RFQ process, and she said that, yes, we will have a stadium on campus by 2010!

OH HAPPY DAY!!! :D:D:D

BUT...she also stated that they are still trying to get private donations currently. So, we may not be there yet to actually have enough money to begin construction...or even excavation... :(

Forgive my ignorance of architecture and this process, but if they are asking for quotes from architects and engineers, does that mean they are asking for quotes for preparing a stadium design and blueprints, or quotes for constructing a new stadium from completed blueprints?

I work in architecture, allbeit not mega-structures like Stadiums. But if an owner is asking for Requests for Qualifications, it's the real deal moving forward.

The one thing I dont really understand is how the money works on something like this. Everyone keeps asking do we have all the money, how much do we have so far, blah blah blah, etc. ad infinitum.

Surely this is like any other real-estate venture and a majority of it will get financed shouldnt it? Alot people seem to imply like we're going to pay 100% cash for the entire thing. I've asked this before but I cant remember if anyone repsonded. Surely someone out there works in real-estate finance and give us some insite how a project this big gets paid for. Throw some thoughts at us if you have them :-)

I'm going to miss ol Fouts.....For like 10 minutes at best.

Maybe this could be completed in 2009.... Please tell me one more year in Fouts...

Can we have it done like in any part of 2009, even in November, I just want hope.

Completing it in 2009 depends on the funding, which has yet to be confirmed. If the funding is there, then we could possibly see dirt turned maybe before the beginning of summer 2008?

I think 2010 is a good year to make sure the process is given the proper attention. Remember our neighbors around the Athletic village? I'm sure they'll have a couple things to say about this stadium on how they think it should be built.

I'm sure things can be smoothed over with, say, lifetime season tickets.

Forgive me if this had been posted in the past, but in my digging, I ran across this:

Title: Naming of the Football Video Viewing Center

Background:

Marshall Evans Payne (M.E. Payne) was an avid fan of North Texas Athletics, in particular North Texas Football. From the first season he attended over 50 years ago, Mr. Payne was hooked. He attended regularly at almost every home game, and listened regularly on the radio when the team played away. M.E. Payne was not an alumnus, but his blood was green.

M.E. had a successful career in real estate in Denton and lived not far from campus on Scripture Street. The other love of his life was his wife, Mary Jobe Payne, whom he predeceased a few years ago. Upon Mrs. Payne’s passing in 2006, UNT learned of her wish to honor her late husband with a gift of $25,000 to the UNT Athletic Department.

In support of Mrs. Payne’s request, the University wishes to honor the memory of M.E. Payne by naming the Football Video Viewing Center in his honor.

Not DIRECTLY related to the stadium fund, but either I missed this, forgot about it, or it wasn't announced.

Cerebus just took the wind out the sails of this thread.

However, it is obvious that the stadium plans are moving forward as meetings are being held with engineers and architects. Funding is probably still an issue.

I don't want to take the wind from anyones sails, but I think a majority of the people on the board don't want to get thier hopes up, and then have them dashed.

Have we raised some dollars, perhaps even several million of these so called dollars? Yes. Is it a large percentage of the total price we THINK the stadium so configured will cost? No.

Now, there is reason to rejoice. In my poor, non expert opinion, have we raised enough money to begin this discovery process? Yes. Money has been raised. Just not enough yet. That is progress.

Also, I hate to be cryptic about amounts, but I would like to consider myself responsible enough to not throw around these important numbers unless I can back them up.

I am probably driving people crazy by posting non stadium foo in this thread, but I thought this was intresting:

Title: Approval of Men’s Basketball Head Coach Employment Agreement

______________________________________________________________________________

Background:

Coach Johnny Jones has been the basketball coach at North Texas for six years. During that time, Coach Jones has won more games than in the previous twelve years. In the past year, Coach Jones set a school record for number of wins in a season and took the men’s basketball team to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 19 years.

His ability to relate to the students as individuals has resulted in the development of his players into truly well-rounded student-athletes and responsible young men. His teams have posted an academic progress rate (APR) of above 945 each year. Under NCAA guidelines, every Division I sports team receives an APR score and those with an APR over 925 are safe from NCAA penalties. Schools having an APR rate of at least 925 show a graduation rate of more than 50 percent. All three seniors in this class are set to graduate on time.

UNT Policy 10.4, Contracts and Agreements, states that Board approval is required for employment agreements with a head coach whose base salary during the term of the agreement will aggregate to a total of $500,000.00 or more. UNT proposes to enter into a new five-year contract with Coach Jones, the total value of which will exceed $500,000.

______________________________________________________________________________

Financial Analysis/History:

Annual base salary will be $170,000 plus 5% raises each year beginning in September of 2008. Coach Jones will also receive a car allowance of $6,000 annually and incentives depending on his performance during the term of the contract.

I have been really unproductive all day at work since reading this thread. This is really exciting news for the University if this is being done. Atleast we know that the University is trying to make this happen.

Also in the end I know nothing is set in stone yet until it is official from the University as far as the new stadium so I am honestly expecting the worse and hoping for the best.

As I have been told they go by an 80/20 rule, meaning during a silent phase they try and obtain 80 percent of the stadium from 20 percent of the donors. Once that is reached you go back and try and get the remaining 20 percent from the remaining 80 percent of the donors.

Rick

And that's why there aren't announcements or articles or anything about the Stadium Fund.

"UNT raises $5 million of the $50 million needed for new stadium" vs. "UNT raises $40 million of the $50 million needed for new stadium" One says, "Wow, they have a long way to go. Good luck with that!" and the other says, "Wow, they're pretty close. Let me help them get closer to finishing."

From what I've heard, the Capital Campaign that is/was supposed to kick off soon includes the new COBA building, the Stadium, and a big chunk for miscellaneous things.

This may not be too big a deal since the major donors have more money than god but how much do you think the Cowboys new stadium will effect our fund raising. It looks like Jerry wants 200k in PSL's for my family to keep our four seats that's defiantly going to cut into what I can donate for a new stadium in Denton.

Screw Jerry! Send the $200,000 to the UNT Stadium Fund. Have a bathroom named after your family!
