I was walking this evening towards the Gateway Center to do a presentation for my evening class and I took a good hard look at Fouts Field and thought the following things.

1. Our stadium is in a good location, wtih great access for students to attend game, as opposed to the new site where students who have a long walk.

2. The new facade on the stadium looks great and makes it a alot more presentable and very close to our nice big coliseum.

3. We have a big jumbrotron that makes our stadium look alot better than what is.

With these in mind and putting aside my desires for a brand new stadium.... Can we remodel Fouts to be what we all want....just in the same location.

Remember a few years back when the students voted to remodel Fouts to be a new stadium with box suites, 45,000 seats, and better access for fans to be closer to the field.

Well about we revisit that idea, and try to put it up for a vote again, the students all want a better football stadium. I mean since the last vote, students have passed the rec center, health center, and an athletic fee increase won't hurt tuition too much.

Market the shit out of the idea, make t-shirts, buttons, and bumper stickers, like they did with the rec center.

This is what I can see done with what we have.

We already have nice great turf, we place a SOW on the 50. We take out all of the endzone stands, make a horseshoe stadium, and have a grassy hill on the other end like, SMU or Arkansas State, and let people or families picnic and watch the game from the hill. This can be done on the west side of the stadium.

We make an inground stadium and make the seating come closer to the field on all sides, and the second tier is what we already have as seating. Box suites can go in where the press box is and we can make a new press box. Seating for this new field would jump from 30,000 to 45,000.

A concept drawing of this was done a few years back and put in the NT daily and maybe the DRC, This was done right when RV came a few years back, if someone can find this, it would be great to post a link. In all actuality, that pic of a remodeled Fouts looked really good.

Well could this be done, please don't say TxDot will come and make their service road near the home sideline, cause TxDot has been planning to expand 35 for almost 20 years.

Can't dig. Supposedly due to water tables under Fouts.

Face it--Fouts is too close to I-35 as it is. It (IMO) needs to go.

Good Lord! Why do the same threads seem to pop up every year?

Because NT has the SAME problems every year.

I like how everyone crucified the guy for proposing an idea. Like he's supposed to have a working knowledge of every single topic that's ever been discussed on gomeangreen.com

Playmaker definitely has knowledge of the situation:

That's one of the things I love about this board you can spend months or even years away and people are still talking about the same things and still getting nowhere.

I hate to bring up this source because it seems to brought up daily but that was similar to Hayden Fry's plan when he first came here. That's when he found the water table problem.

Because every two months he starts a thread about a new stadium and/or expanding Fouts down, where the water table and TxDOT are always mentioned.

Aquatics football for UNT? From looking at the UNT campus lay of the land, I'd bet the breast-stroke would be one of the most popular swim routines used by the:

Mean Aqua-Green?!?!?!

Dad joke of the day? Well, at least a nomination or, uh, keep trying?:lol:

I forgot about the water tables, I do remember that was an issue in the past...TxDot is still going to take a long time...

I was just reminding myself about the depicted stadium renovation that Villareal had for Fouts when he first came here, also we didnt acquire Eagle Point at that point when this was conducted....

Im just trying to see if there is any Hooooope for bringing this idea to life sometime soon, and have a groundbreaking set for a certain date and time....

I heard from the interim business dean at the college of business tent during homecoming that there will be a groundbreaking for a huge 200,000 sf business bldg that will occupy where kendall and highland halls are now. It will be a state of the art building, with numerous auditiroum classrooms, national fast food chain, and also lounge for students.

Quick fact, UNT has more business students than any ever school in the U.S., with over 5,000 students... Too bad I wont get to enjoy this new bldg, as I will graduate...by the time it opens.

Wish I had some news about new stadium but I dont, :( maybe those guys with the suits were out of state developers who saw the land wasnt being used for anything and wanted to build apartments.

I'm aware of what a water table is. I just haven't read a technical analysis of how it prevents the in-ground renovation idea at Fouts.

I'm not an engineer but if the water table is the problem I'd assume the water table is too close to the current ground level of fouts to dig any deeper.
