Scheduling A Rival

I noticed while checking the NMSU schedule (they beat UNM tonight) that they scheduled a home and home series with both UTEP and UNM for this year. I believe that they play those games yearly. I think that we should seek to do the same type of scheduling with SMU, TCU, of UTA or a combinationof those schools. It would allow fans to travel and help generate an increased interest at each school and the media, as well as reduce the travel budget for the school.

I think it would also be a big recruiting boost for all four schools.

Philadelphia has a tradition of the Big 5 that has kept interst high in local basketball. It would be great if we had something like that here.

It takes two teams to schedule a series. Our little friends southeast and southwest of us have no interest in a longtime series with us. UTA is probably most willing, and one out of three ain't bad. The series forementioned has been dreamed of for years and years and years and years.

drex is 100% correct...UNT seems to have tried many times to schedule "locals", but the "locals" seem to have no real interest in such a schedule. Seems "odd" to me because you could sell a bunch of tickets and get some much needed ticket and concession revenue from such a series. Oh, I get it...egos may be getting in the way! Do you think??????

Just a little bit, I am fairly confident our team can knock out an smu or tcu, especially this years team. I think it would hurt their pride a little. They don't want to be beaten up by the step children of the dfw region.

Yes, it is true Smew and Teeseeyou both have highly inflated self images. Especially in the case of SMU, the "basketball greatness" train left the station decades ago. We at UTA at least understand our status as step-child, having dropped football and playing basketball in a ridiculously inadequate venue. Still, if TCU beats SMU tonight and if we happen to win in Fort Worth on December 17th, lots of people in Denton and Arlington will justifiably draw the obvious conclusion about the quality of basketball at the two little church schools.

SMU and TCU want no part of NT now. There have been suggestions for years for the four Division 1 local teams to have a tournament. The problem is I guess that none of the teams really draws a crowd and thus sponsors aren't that interested. There is no reason, however that the four schools couldn't do it without sponsorship and rotate the location of the tournament. Seems to me this would be be financially beneficial to all and could be build into a major event. I wonder if any of the schools has ever proposed this to the others? Maybe the idea just needs someone to initiate the process.
