BUT STILL TRAILS A I-AA --SEE COLONIAL @ # 10

Yep, we have both been behind a couple of IAA conferences for awhile now. That will shake itself out during the playoffs/bowls. I guess that I see the glass hafl full... not empty, but hey, what do I know..

After yesterday tell me just how much emptier it can get,? The bell cow of the SBC, Troy, gets beat at home for the championship, and the worst two teams in the nation tee it up to see just who can be as bad as it gets. Not what power conferences are made of

We could be ranked below CUSA, Southern, and Gateway.

And to make matters worse – we turned down what amounts to a standing offer to join the WAC. Had we joined we would be in a respectable conference sharing in BCS revenue for the last two years.

I know many of you don't think the WAC is a good fit for us but it is a big step up from the Sunbelt. And right now perception means a lot for the survival/betterment of our program.

Jeff has written there are not enough common games to get a statistically significant sampling between FBS conferences and FCS conferences. He puts them together as the NCAA considers both to be Division 1, but the guy who wrote the ranking doesn’t compare the two types of conferences.

Actually, we did get a share of the BCS revenue. Just not a very big one.

Revenue is profit minus costs incurred. Yes there would have been BCS profit, but there would also have been substantial increases in travel costs. Not just for football, but for all sports. The WAC is probably a nice short term solution, but it is not the long term answer.

I heard last night that Hawaii has a football budget of 2.2 million which I imagine is one of the larger budgets in the WAC seeing as how they have the longest traveling distance. Last night they secured 4.5 million with their BCS berth. I know the other members of the WAC don’t get the same amount but they are all going to make out OK.

They (including La Tech) aren’t in the WAC to go out of business. I heard it explained before on this board that the WAC travel expense would not be that much more than our current travel expense. Most of the opinions against joining the WAC seem to be centered on the west coast time zone/ media coverage issues and/or an inability to see road games.

Anyway – I’m curious – what’s our budget? It seems to me that if you have a conference that wants you and they have placed two teams in the BCS in back to back years then you ought to seriously consider it.

Question is, would they still want us?

That’s a good question.

I think that someone reported on the La Tech board this year that Benson was quoted on a halftime show as stating that we had a standing invitation.

Can you imagine what Hawaii would do to our DB's right now with Colt Brennan throwing the ball like he does.

True – but a loss to Hawaii would be easier to explain to my co-workers. They have at least heard of Hawaii. When they ask on Monday who we played I guarantee most will never have even heard of FIU. And those that have will likely know that FIU had the longest losing streak (until Saturday)
