I am as disappointed as you about losing to FIU, and the way this season has gone. I still have faith in Todd Dodge and have seen the changes he has and will be making between now and next season. A MAJOR KEY to our success next year is the recruitment of quality players between now and February.

I am proud of our current players. One positive is that our players have never once gave up...they were fighting till the end of every game. I still have faith that Todd Dodge and our coaches will turn this team around..

I'm ashamed of some go mean green posters. Yes, every poster has "freedom of speach" But these posters have said the same thing time.................after time...................after time................Fire our Defensive coordinator. I guess now we will hear fire the special teams coach and even fire everyone and get a new head coach. If we were to do this.....I guarantee you no quality coach will come to NT if we don't give a NEW HC more than one year to turn a losing team into a winning team.

I believe each of these posters are honorable people and all but ONE are true NT suporters.

I believe each of you (except one) would not intentionally hurt our current players nor the NT recruiting efforts to recruit quality players. BUT, IMHO that is what you are doing ......by your repeated calls to fire coaches. IF you don't already know...........our current players, prospective players, the family and friends of prospective players read our board postings.

After reading your posts do you really believe our coaches will be able to recruit "good quality" defensive players.....you don't believe the opposing team coaches won't tell them what is being posted...that the coach recruiting them won't be at NT next year..

Well I gues I have exercised my freedom of speech so you are free to "hit" me for doing so. All I ask is that you justify to yourself and us that your posts will not hurt NT recruiting.

NT has probably the worst team in the nation and you are worried about negative board comments hurting recruiting? I still support TD and think he will turn it around. However, IMO you would have to be totally clueless to not have doubts after this season.

Expecting happy campers and happy, positive post when the team has a 2-10 record and the worst defensive showing in the history of the school is a little much.

With all due respect OT, I hope we sign a load of defensive talent. BUT, I don't expect true freshmen to come in and lead this team, and I don't know of top defensive talent that would look at our DC and be excited about playing his schemes.

It was an embarrassment to have OU coaches laughing about us at the start of the year, and I thought that would create a sense of urgency to adjust his system to our players. Didn't happen and giving up 40+ to FIU just shows the lack of adjustments he made and how over matched he is in the D1 game. I have nothing personal against the man, but this was a bad hire.

So how have negative board comments helped recruiting.....

Please rank the following, from most likely to hurt recruiting to least likely to hurt recruiting:

* Having the 119th ranked scoring defense out of 119 teams

* Ending up with a 2-10 record

* Being the last-place team in the worst conference in I-A

* Giving up 74 points in a single game

* Having a fan message board with negative comments about a coach

If you had your way and we pretended Dodge's first year wasn't a colossal embarrassment, do you really think recruiting would be better? Student athletes aren't idiots. They would know things were bad in 2007 without us telling them.

It's called faith. I mean, somehow the religious folk stay with their tenets even when they suffer a setback; "it's for a reason, it'll get better, it'll make me stronger in the long run," etc.

We suffered a setback. Our staff and team got punched in the face. You get back up, you get going again, and you keep on.

Love your committment to our school, but if you really think negative comments hurt our recruiting so much, then please explain to me all of the negative comments from MULTIPLE message boards (more than 4 in many cases) - negative comments from any of the top 20 teams in the country year after year.

I don't believe they have. However, I don't think positive or negative comments on a board are significant in recruiting. Fan boards are negative by nature, even teams that win most of their games have as many negative comments as positive. I like you think that almost everyone on the board wants the best for NT. However, to think that most fans are not going to spew frustration over one if not the worst season in NT history is highly optimistic.

I haven't given up the ship by any means but we have a lot of water to bail. I watched a small part of the game and listened to the rest. The Def seemed to have plenty of hustle a lots of good plays. FIU got several big plays when the defense seemed to be out of place. I didn't get the sense it was not lack of talent but defensive schemes. Special teams and Vissa had a hard time tonight (and that happens) but not as consistently as the defense gave up big plays. I will trust the coach to fix the problems but if significant changes are not made in the defense I think we are in for big trouble.

I’m ashamed at how many people defend this guy. He’s paid to perform. That’s the profession he’s chosen. If he doesn’t perform then he’s got to go or be reassigned– it’s that simple. And for what it's worth, I'm willing to be that most of us on this board don't wish him any ill will and would be happy with a reassignment.

In any event, the people that are voicing their displeasure with his performance on this board are not the problem. If we want to be a big time program then we have to start acting like one. The coordinators should be expected to perform as Division 1 level coordinators and the fans shouldn’t be ridiculed for expecting the same.

If anyone thinks he’s got it bad here then ask yourself this: What would the reaction be if he were the defensive coordinator at UT or OU? The UT fans constantly call for Greg Davis’ head b/c his play calling $ucks and they typically win 10 games a year. And yes – his play calling $ucks.

In other words – the scrutiny only gets worse the higher you go up the food chain. If he can’t take it now then this is probably as high as he’s going to go.

The bottom line:

We have opposing coaches laughing at his schemes on public radio and he has the audacity to say "The schemes, that's the go-to thing [for critics]," Derek Mendoza said. "As soon as something goes wrong, it's the schemes. The players have to be accountable for what's going on, too."

Yes – the players have to be accountable but somehow – an adequate defense from last year turned into the worst defense in Division 1. Is it the players that caused that transformation? I don’t think so.

It doesn’t sound like he’s going anywhere– so let’s hope that he “grows” into the position. Maybe Dodge will send him to some camps in the off-season and maybe he will develop a more player friendly attitude.

First, this board is no more negative than any other fanboard devoted to schools we recruit against, so no dice there.

Second, the fans have earned the right by their contributions to this institution, both of their time and money, to be critical of this staff's performance.

...the PASSION of this fanbase is what makes it great. Sometimes all of us have methods that aren't perfect - I'm certainly a good example of that - but the fact that people care so much about this program is A. Refreshing, B. proves things are going the right direction and C. should send a positive message to any recruit.

I just don't see it the way you present, Oldtimer. I respect the hell outta' you and your time as an NT supporter, and I certainly respect your opinion... ...I just don't think I agree with your thesis. :)

Things WILL get better, no matter how upset people get on this board. :)

Dont' you understand that Dodge controls all aspects of his coaching staff. You are blaming the DC for the defense ,ALL RESPONSIBILITY FALLS ON THE HEAD COACH. And to answer your question, YES, this fan board is far more negative than any other fan board. At the end of the game when we all knew we were going to lose Dodge did not put all the Seniors in to finish the game, that was classless. These guys have played their hearts out for this program and all they get is bashing and negative remarks from their coaching staff. It is easy to blame the players but the reality is the coaches are in over their heads but their egos will never let them admit it and you guys have bought into their hype and brainwashing. You guys have bought that hook, line and sinker. This coaching staff could have taken them to a conference championship game with the talent on this team, they could have done it. He wanted to utilize his high school game plans with his freshman recruits. The veteran players on offense and defense know more about playing Sunbelt teams than the coaching staff, but they did not want to listen to any input from those players, so here we are. Get ready for next year boys because it isn't going to get any better because the attitude of the coaches isn't going to change. Every news writer said we were Southlake Carroll, well we are and a high school team will NEVER beat a college team. We needed a college coach with college experience and we did not get that, so here we go.

Do you speak with knowledge from within the locker room? What type of input did the players try to give the coaching staff?

How long are we going to allow him to "grow" into a DC? Young people can wait it out- older alums need solutions now! If we do "wait it out", then please have Plummer write out one of his epistles regarding our new, top 25 defense, headed by our current DC, and recite it at my graveside after I'm gone.

I think being routed by teams like FIU hurts recruiting more than our comments do.

THANK YOU!!!

Finally a heavy dose of realism...

That is what i call jumping off the bandwagon. No faith at all in Dodge huh? I see what you are saying about high school coach, blah blah blah. We had two wins last year and two wins this year, we didn't get any worse, except in defense, and we didn't get any better, except on offence. Now we get to start the improvement process. All coaches start somewhere, Dodge startedin College and then went to high School. big deal, he has the respect of every high school coach in the state and those guys words go a long way in helping their kids figure out where to play. you wanna jump ship after one horrendous season thats fine, you go ahead. Our alma mata deserves better than that.

Responsibility does fall on the head coach and that to me is why RM should be reassigned, but to crucify Dodge after a year is insane.
