Neuheisel interested in SMU job

Rick Neuheisel said Wednesday he had been contacted indirectly about the open SMU football coaching job.

The Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator and former Colorado and Washington head coach said he would be interested in the position.

"It's a diamond in the rough," Neuheisel said of SMU.

Neuheisel said he missed college football and would be interested in the right opportunity, but he wasn't bent on leaving the NFL.

Neuheisel was fired from Washington for participating in an off-campus NCAA basketball tournament pool. He later received a $4.5 million settlement from the university and the NCAA, which essentially cleared him of wrongdoing.

Question ??

Was Neuheisel at Colorado when the scandal of recruits being provided escorts / strippers took place ?? Just wondering , if so I would think that SMu would be smart of enough not to go after someone who has had past recruiting NCAA violations given their history with the NC two A's.

The firing for a office pool is a joke , who hasn't ever been apart of a March Madness bracket ??

Neuheisel was exxonerated of anything that could hurt his future coaching career by the NCAA offices. SMU is probably making a smart choice with RN.

Matter of fact, RN was my first choice for our HFC's job when DD was fired until Todd Dodge's name came up and then TDodge along with his Texas HS ties eventually rose to the top very quickly on my personal wish list.

I am still 110% happy that we chose Coach Dodge and I said the day we hired him looking at the fact that he would have no time to recruit last Winter that for his first season we might win 3 or 4 games. And I suppose I sorta' used our prior 2 years as my barometer for this Fall.

A few stories : http://www.washington.edu/alumni/columns/d..._neuheisel.html

I think Neuheisal would be a great upgrade from PB , but I also think SMu would have to think twice about another possible NCAA run in. Then again , things can't get much worse on the hilltop.

PMG , was he just cleared because of the 4 year NCAA rule ??

I don't know how shady Neuheisal really is. But if he's half as shady as people think, getting him even in the vicinity of those SMU alums who were part of the "pay-for-play" scandel would just be asking for trouble. Because, after all, the last time SMU was successful in Football was when they were paying players.

Then I say hire him and let SMUt dig its own grave.

He was the QB of the San Antonio Gunslingers in the USFL and I have one of his replica jerseys I'd like to get signed. That's the only reason I hope he goes to SMU.
