The Mean Green (2-9, 1-5 Sun Belt) have taken baby steps in coach Todd Dodge's first season.

North Texas has made steady improvements despite not posting many victories, and it has plenty to play for in the season finale at Florida International on Dec. 1.

First, FIU has the nation's longest losing streak at 23 games, and the Mean Green it certainly don't want to be the opponent to see the streak end.

Second, UNT has several seniors who were part of the team's last championship, and they want to go out with a victory.

Finally, UNT is trying to win its first Sun Belt Conference road game under Dodge.

The Mean Green would appear to be the favorite on paper, but they must do a better job taking care of the football. FIU has made a lot of improvements over the past month and will hardly be a pushover.

When are we going to start ensuring victories by resorting to comedic hijinx, like putting laxatives in their gatorade and superglue on their gloves?
