Although I would hate to see SMU have any success, they could do a lot worse than to have Bower as their coach. He did a good job at Southern Miss, under very similar circumstances in the beginning to North Texas. He was the one who started the "anybody, anytime, anywhere" mantra there. If he does become SMU's coach, and I don't think he will, at least Rick V would have good contact to keep a series going w/ them.

Don't understand how the circumstances are similar. But supporters have been calling for his head since the loss to Rice. If Southerns AD does not find a great coach expect him to be next. I think that RV will be a candidate if that happens. Southern fans expect conference championships especially since CUSA is not very strong. I think they should have kept Bower.

What I meant by similar circumstances was a large fan base that did not support the school, only 2 major powers in the state but LSU, Alabama, and Auburn in close proximity. We have A&M, UT, TT, etc., and a potential large fan base that does not attend games. They have pretty decent crowds for there games, have had some success against the bigger schools both on the field and in recruiting. Hattiesburg is a city similar to Denton, only not near a large metropolitan area. Even Rick V has compared the programs to each other.

I agree that they would consider him as AD, but hopefully he would not let sentimental reasons affect his decision, but see it as a lateral move. We do not need to lose him to anybody at this point.

Not sure if you are talking about UNT or SMU comparison. But I agree with respect to a small attendance for the area and the competition with the BCS schools. But the population of the state of Mississippi is less then the DFW metroplex. The biggest difference is that UNT made a hire last year in T Dodge to completely rebuild the football program. SMU is doing the same thing this year. Southern is not really rebuilding as much as they are trying to get to a higher level. I dont think that Southern has ever had back to back losing seasons. We are just not beating the bigger teams like we did in the 90's.

Anyway lots of changes out there. Glad you maed yours last year. Hope you win a game in the NCAA tournament this year. I'm sure that I will come to a vew BBall games.
