we had no outside shooting tonight until it was already over. not havein dennis really killed us. our guards just made the rookie mistakes that you are gonna get when you play freshmen. they still show a ton of potential and you get to see flashes of what they can be.

we also just really struggle whenever we play a zone defense. it seems like we always struggle whenver we play a team that play majority zone. the uta team seemed way more pumped up for this game than our players. i loved the effort by our guys, however, to make it a close game ther at the end.

I was worried about this game from the get-go. UTA is a good team and returns 5 starters. We are still in the process of creating a new team with different players. Hopefully, JJ and the coaches can use this as a learning experience.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope we get to play again next year. Is this really the 4th time in a row UTA has won against UNT?

its never easy to win on the road in college basketball.. UTA has a good team this year.. we will bounce back

We decided they were pretty good last year about this time, too.

That held up.

We had a great crowd at the game tonight.....unfortunately we didn't have much to cheer about.

-Poor shooting

-Inability to break down their zone defense

-We had a chance to break the game open early and missed a lot of easy shots near the basket.

I think we need to get the ball to Quincy more up top when we are in a zone

Ben Bell has been a huge disappointment so far this year. He just doesn't look comfortable out there.

As for the Freshmen, Josh and Tristan played ok.

Keith looked good but needed more touches. He and Quincy had problems when they tried to dribble.

The whole team just seemed to lack that killer instinct tonight and look lethargic.

It's only one game but there are some concerns.

GMG! Beat Western New Mexico!

We could have been up 16 to 0 if we had hit the 4 or 5 missed three footers at the beginning. Absolutely pathetic shooting. You'll hardly ever beat anyone shooting 39% from the floor. We finished the first half 1-11 from the 3 point line. But there was no need as we could feed Quincy and Wooden inside all night, and that' s what we should have done instead of wasting all the three attempts.

Not trying to be a jerk...BUT:

UTA was lucky to catch us on an off night. Ben Bell was something like 1 for 12 from the field. If we shoot anywhere within 5 % of our average we win this game easily.

UTA had some good athletes, but I have to say...they should win EVERY game in that cave that they call an arena. How on earth does anyone play in that place? Maybe their guys were better at memorizing their Shakespeare lines or tuning their violins at halftime. That place was a joke.

In fact, the part of the campus that I saw made me wonder how this was actually a university that people attend. There's a freakin' highway right through the middle of it. Plus, I saw more Longhorn, Aggie, Horned Frog, and Pony gear in their stands than UTA stuff. I'm embarrassed that we couldn't bring our A game (or even our B- which would have won the game).

UTA was definately the better team last night. It was the first game away from the Pit and it showed. Our outside shooting was brutal! We sorely missed Dennis' outside shooting as Adam McCoy's game is missing in action. We had to basically play with our 3 points most of the night (White, Bell & Dez) We also had key turnovers after turnover.

Give UTA all the credit, this is a game that they get up for and appear to be comfortable playing at Texas Hall. Nice UNT turnout by the way. Despite the "L", I still like what I see when we get Dennis back. UTA beat us last year and we still ended up with a good year. Shit happens!!!

I was there and do not think that Texas Hall did either of the following:

1. Miss 61% of Shots

2. Repeatedly turn ball over both at times when we could have built lead early, AND when we were tryin to make a run late...

3. Fail to exploit the soft spots in their zone defense (High Post and from outside)

It almost look like we were mentally going over our agenda for the T-Giving Weekend a little early......

Oh, and the Mavs Did play well.......

Great MG Crowd.....too bad we didnt see a Great MG Performance (except for way team fought back at end of game....THAT's what its ALL About; just came a little too late)

EveryBody Gobble Till ya wobble.......IM Out.........

Observations

UTA appears to want the game a lot more, and deserved the win.

NT could not hit the ocean for most of the game, and made a great number of bad decisions and passes.

I restate a prior opinion that I would not schedule UTA away because of the home court advantage. Outside of the old snake pit I haven't seem a court that gives the home team such an advantage. This despite the pitiful support that UTA gets at home. You expect home court advantages due to crowd noise and familiarity with the court but not because of the quality of the arena. I once watched a game there in which NT had sixty something rebounds, more than double UTA and still lost.

Attendance was very generously reported at 1300, my guess about 300 NT fans and 500 to 600 UTA. For two undefeated metroplex teams that is extremely poor.

Could UTA make Texas Hall any less fan friendly. A lot of it is because of the odd struture, but it certainly could be improved. Fans cannot buy tickets at the entrance next to the parking but have to walk around the building to the auditorium side despite the fact that the majority of the fans set on the bleacher side. Crossing from one side of the court to the other is difficult, yet all the concessions are on one side of the court.

NT has a long way to go. I think NT has superior talent to UTA but very poor execution at this time.

I think fans were misled a little because of the Oklahoma State win. OSU is not a very good team at this time. A close home win over a bad ISU team and away loss to a good UTA shows that NT is not as far along as I thought. The chemistry is not there yet. I am not sure playing Bell and White at the same time is going to work. Both are point guards and using both at the same time is hurting the offense.

White continues to look great. He does not seem to ever take bad shots. When he gets better distributing the ball, he is really going to be outstanding. Thompson, late in the game showed signs of elevating his play.

Kudos to UTA. This probably sounds like a left handed complement, but I really think their coaches and players are doing an outstanding job. They have beat NT two years in a row despite having to play and recruit in one of the worst facilities in the nation with very little fan support.

Losing to UTA is disappointing, but I believe the future is very bright for this years' NT team. NT with the advantages it has over UTA should never loss to UTA anywhere, but this UTA squad is probably one of the better teams NT will play this year.

Thanks for the post. I was getting ready to lay down my thoughts, but you pretty much nailed it. I was really disappointed with our fan turnout.
