Throw Back Jerseys

Some of us were talking before the Coach's show Monday night. I thought it would be fun to have Hayden Fry as the Homecoming Grand Marshall, special honoree at the game, and use the old color lime green jerseys for the game.

"What about the cost ?" And we talked some more.

"We could auction off the jerseys after the game."

We would take bids on each jersey and after the game, the winning bidder would receive the jersey he "won." This would cover the cost. Some jerseys would get a higher bid than others and should balance out those that don't get sold (although, I would think most parents, grandparents, girl friend, etc wuld buy a jersey).

Good idea ?

And again, if you don't like the lime jersey, you shouldn't have even gotten this far.

jersey's are easy to cover (and I'd glady vouch for one)... the hard part would be the helmets, pants, shoes, etc- all things you would have to have for an appropriate "throwback" game

I'd love to see us in the throwback stuff sometime... maybe once we get a new stadium, do a "new" with the "old" type gameday

Hayden's teams usually wore the lime green jerseys and white pants at home plus the lime green helments. On the road they usually wore the lime green pants with white jerseys. At times they would wear all white on the road except for the lime green helments. One night at home they came out in lime green jerseys, lime green pants, and the usual lime green helments. It was hideous. I thought a flock of huge parrots had landed at Fouts Field. I don't know why he did that, but thank goodness he never did it again.

Though not very aesthetically appealing, the old colors are very traditional and would work great in a throwback sense. I say go with it and auction off everything, jerseys, helmets, etc once every few years and make some more money for the program.

Great idea!!! I like the lime green but what I like more is a connection with tradition and special events to develop a sense of school pride and enthusiasm. I'm all in!!

Illinois State is currently having an online auction of their football jerseys. It might be interesting to contact them to see how it is going.
