You can get an early reading that it's nearly Christmas time again because the desperate are needing cash during another bloody night on the east side in November. I still don't know this girls name. I do know she's one incredible tough individual, with an exit wound in her skull the size of a dime she still communicated with me the only way she could all the way to JPS by squeezing the hell out of my hand to answer questions and staying alert. I thought she was going to break my hand at one point as she dealt with the pain. I'm praying for her to pull through.

FORT WORTH -- A 24-year-old woman was still in critical condition this morning after she was shot in the face Monday night at her east Fort Worth home and robbed of jewelry, some of which she was wearing, police said.

The woman was taken John Peter Smith Hospital late Monday where she remained today.

About 9 p.m. Monday, Fort Worth police received a 911 call from woman in the 2800 block of East Vickery Boulevard who reported that two people had kicked in the door and were attempting to rob people inside, said Lt. Dean Sullivan, a police spokesman.

While on the phone with a call-taker, the woman said that shots had been fired and someone was hit, he said.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a woman inside the residence with a gunshot wound to the face.

The victim had been shot near her left eye, Sullivan said Tuesday morning.

Witnesses told officers that a man and woman had knocked on the door and, as the victim prepared to answer it, forced their way inside.

Inside, one suspect pulled a handgun and demanded money, Sullivan said. Before shooting the woman, the suspect also was heard demanding jewelry. Witnesses said the victim may have known the attackers.

Children were in the home when the crime happened, Sullivan said, although he did not know how many. He noted, however, that they hid in a closet during the home invasion.

The intruders fled after the shooting with the victim's jewelry.

Police do not consider it a random incident, or something related to gangs or narcotics related, he said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Fort Worth Police Robbery Unit at 817- 392-4370 or CrimeStoppers 817-469-TIPS [8477]. All callers can remain anonymous.
