My Complaint About Yesterday

Navy scores to make it 49-38 with a minute left and we dont have great field position after the kickoff. I was hoping we would go in the half up 49-38 and feeling good about a great first half. Instead we throw on 2nd and 3rd down and stop the clock and give Navy the ball with 24 seconds lefts and they score in 2 plays to make it 49-45 and now they have all the momentum b/c they get the ball to start the 2nd half. Otherwise their first 2nd half TD would have made it 49-45.

I think Coach Dodge is used to being able to go score quickly with Carroll and was hoping that we would do the same yesterday. Hopefully in the future we will take it into the half.

You know, I had the same thought, but at the same time, everything was working for you at that point in the game. Our offense had virtually played a flawless first half. Last night basically came down to who made less mistakes in the second half.

Most defenses could keep a team from scoring with 24 ticks left on the clock. We're not a part of that 'most' group however.

The way we were moving the ball, we could have scored in 24 seconds. I don't blame the coaches at all here. Everyone bitched about how conservative and passive Dickey was. Now we complain when we get the opposite. TD has nothing to lose the rest of the way out, so any and all aggressiveness is welcomed on my part.

Several games this year Dodge had a chance to sit on the ball just before halftime and take the lead and momentum into the locker room at the half. He didn't do it and it has cost him dearly. The SMU and Navy games were almost carbon copies in this respect.

Could it also be said that maybe Dodge expected his defense to not fold like a cheap accordian in the final 24 seconds of a half in order to keep the lead. Mendoza needs to step it up the final 3 games or step out. His defense will not win a game the rest of the year, even against FIU. WKU played Troy close and will beat us down, Arky State will destroy us on TV Thursday.

Well as long as he keeps things the way they are on the defensive side, he'd better sit on the ball. And, I am not talking about the players.
