I was unable to go to the game, or watch it on the net. All I can do is look at the line score and read comments by journalists and fans. There is a lot of criticism about the defense, but just looking at the line score it looks like our offense was rolling in the first half, but stopped cold in the second half. What happened? Did Navy start blitzing the house after halftime? That usually seems to stop us.

Just wondering.

I thought we had an outstanding offensive gameplan that goes back to Coach Dodge & Ford's offensive philosophy: Take what they give you. They were aligning 2 DB's to our Trips sides and we took advantage of that to the Trips side and to the single WR side in the passing game. We ran alot of bubble & slip screens that went for big plays. Threw the ball downfield well. Vizza made several things happen with his feet. We also called some timely QB draw plays that went for a lot of yards. Navy seemed to adjust a little bit to our Trips stuff, but we didn't really get a lot of RAC yards in the 2nd half. Vizza was still like 17-21 in the 2nd half, but Navy kept most of it in front of them and did a better job tackling.

Our offensive line did a nice job of blitz pickup...didn't seem to give us too much trouble.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Special Teams. Coverage was horrible, unless I missed something? Same goes for both sides: I swear the return men weren't getting touched until they passed the 30 yard line.

Yep, special teams had another rough night in kick coverage. Not that that's anything new this year.

The special teams did a great job on that onsides kick, but other than that, were weak. In addition, the kick coverage was really sad.

...I think the Offense was getting pretty worn down the second half, and Navy actually made some adjustments at halftime. A couple of interceptions at bad times (one Vizza's fault, the other one was tipped into the defender's hands) stopped good drives, both in the Redzone. ...so the Offense was moving the ball nearly as good in the 2nd half as in the first. There was some blitzing, but the line was doing a good job of picking it up most of the night. REAL improvement on the offensive line last night from our last outting.

Not much of a differenc in offensive production between the two halfs except for the two interceptions. Also, Vizza didn't seem to run the ball as much as he did in the first half, I thought this helped open up some passing lanes early on.
