Q Boy, I've probably forgotten more about football than you seem to know about it. In fact, besides lusting after those who would wear jockstraps, have you ever worn one to play the game?

Court Jestor? Go look in the mirror (with your clothes on).

TAMU and UNT? Apples and Oranges...

Why yes, Plumm I have played football and am actually wearing a jock while typing this. I was a defensive end and offensive tackle - it was great fun. I feel those life lessons really qualified me to speak credibly about how to best call the current players busting their asses for our ENTERTAINMENT "cancers."

I know I am a court jestor - I make it obvious in just about everything I do. The sad part is that you have no idea.

You guys wear me out with your back and forth garbage. We're not very good this year, so what. Remember, this is North Texas, what do you expect? Don't you guys remember? "we still have the most difficult situation to overcome of anyone in the conference.....I know, I work here EVERYday" -DD

Todd Dodge works there everyday. I wonder if he knows?

Let's just be grateful we still have a football team. It could be worse, we could be Utah State, FIU or even worse, UTA and have no football at all. The ghost of Bear Bryant couldn't have taken us to the promised land this year. If nothing else, at least we got to see what a forward pass looks like this year.

I bet that Zombie Landry could have done it.

Still waiting to hear from MGE and JayDub... Please chime in, gentlemen.

You're right, Cr1028...

Quoner, my apologies to you for my most rude statements and those will cease immediately. You are probably as good a fan as we have in MG Country and I will not get personal again. I suppose we all need to stick together since its not always easy being green.

Mean Green football is a passion for all of us, and because of that its going to create some of what we've been reading on this board almost since Darrell Dickey was fired and Todd Dodge was hired. We all have our own respective projections of what ultimate success for Mean Green football will eventually look like. Some of our pictures are (perhaps) a bit more grandiose than others, but that has much to do with the eras we attended North Texas, doesn't it?

Those of us who were weaned as NT students with Mean Green football teams that had national wins over what would be bowl teams today and a a few weeks worth of Top 20 rankings back in the day may never see our football program in any other light than that, and I guess that is what sums up my own personal expectations for Mean Green football with my hopes that it soon returns to such Glory Days and............. is probably the very reason I post (many times) out of complete frustration on GoMeanGreen.com because of what I've mostly seen since I graduated in May of 1976. If you enjoyed a brief taste of some of the best wines available, beer & pretzels will just never do it for you again.

I (like many of you) have given this program much time, very much thought and money in past years (not so much monies of late since there have been health issues and since I started a new business that has been a slow starter), but I hope to rejoin the Mean Green Club as soon as this new business venture starts making money.

GMG!

Hey Jonas Buckles, hey Craig Jones, and you too Kim Phillips, Navy will pass about three to five times today, so you three stay back and forget about the pitch man coming up. Somebody else will surely take him.

My point. Take our best TALENT we've ever had, and add any of the countless others I've left off in my sarcastic example above, and you will have the same results if you place them in the same scheme we have played this year.

Aaron Weathers, who led this team in tackles with 113 in '05, which ranked him 2nd(SECOND) in the nation that year, who led this team in tackles last year with 78 and 5th in the conference, and who is currently 2nd on the team in tackles this year behind Derek Mendoza with 50 is credited for ONE TACKLE yesterday.

SOMEBODY FREAKING TELL ME HOW THAT'S ATTRIBUTABLE TO AARON WEATHERS TALENT?

Rick

Rick I always enjoy reading your post...you seem to know what UNT has in Aaron Weathers. It has bothered me all season that there is not any attempt to get him around the ball. Ark State has a good safety in T. Johnson and the DC is constantly sending him on blitz, letting him just roam and make plays. UNT DC has wasted the talent of a very solid safety. I agree God bless these defensive players!

The young men on the defensive side of the ball were ranked in the 60's last year and have only lost Sky Pruitt. Mendoza took that and turned it into the worst defense in the history of NT. These young men deserved better than that. Mendoza is an embarrassment. How in the world do you score 62 points and lose! I hope he is ashamed of his performance and walks.

Towards you? Ask FFR how that turns out.

At least losing this year is 1000 times more entertaining than losing last year! Now, about our DC, perhaps Utah State could use another....nah....probably not.....

That's my perception, too, and I just don't understand the positive thinkers who are overlooking this. A team that returns that many starters on one side of the ball is expected to get better, not worse. I could understand a little dropoff when learning a new system or adjusting to a quick-strike offense that puts you on the field longer, but dropping all the way to the bottom of the FBS is too much. If something doesn't change before next season, it's insanity to do the same thing and expect different results.

Agreed! I can't remember ever cheering so much in a loss!

I think this game points to what a quality opponent will do for attendance, even with a 1-7 home team and Fouts. Navy also did bring close to 4,000 fans themselves. We must continue to work to get into a conference with closer teams and more quality opponents that fans want to see. Don't be surprised if the WKU game is the opposite in attendance. <_<

If you looked in the program saturday ,you noticed that in the piece that listed the largest Fouts crowds, all came when UNT played local teams. By local I mean SMU, Baylor, Tulsa,TCU,SFA,Montana (?), NMSU,and McNeese. No Sun Belt teams are listed. I think if UNT was to open the season at home, regardless of the team they played ,the crowd would approach sellout status . It's time to step up and cater to the UNT supporters and act like a DI school, not a lackey to the UTs and Oklahomas of the world.

Agreed 100%. I think UNT has grown to the point and has enough of a following that we would eventually sell out every home game with a decent home schedule. I would do WHATEVER it takes to get as many of the type of programs to Fouts as possible like we saw on Saturday. It goes a LONG way toward continuing to change the old perceptions out there for UNT. Once those perceptions are permanently changed, there is no telling what this school could do or what conference we could be in. The kind of crowd we had on Saturday could go along way to helping us pay the fee to get more "name" programs to come to Fouts. I wouldn't stop calling until I had OK State, SMU, TCU, Tech, Houston, Rice, Tulsa, Southern Miss, etc to Fouts.

Hey, even though I never saw him get into the game at LB(could have and I just missed it but I doubt it since he's showing to have made no tackles against Navy) I see that Brandon Monroe shows up on the player participation report. With nearly 170 tackles coming into this season I can see why this three year CANCER is sitting the bench while true freshman and possibly a future standout Tony Tavaras has his redshirt blown by participating against OU and then getting his first major playing time against Navy netting 3 tackles saturday against the Midshipmen.

Two games, 3 tackles in a pointless 1 win season with only three seasons remaining to show for it. Good stuff.

Did anyone else notice A.J. Pinson on the kickoff coverage team ? He was blowing people up, wow.

Posted

A.J. Penson has been doing that all year! If you single him out on Kickoff he flies down there and squares people up. He's an explosive player with a chance to be a big difference maker for the Mean Green for several years. He has been called by Coach Dodge "The best defensive player we coached against at Southlake Carroll." The Dragons played Lufkin when A.J. was a sophomore and a junior.

OK, I'll going ahead and serve as the official cancer doctor, OK?:) Well, last night another well informed Young Gun Alum called me Court Jestor, so I guess the M.O. of a few of you young whipper-snappers is if you can't match a proper discussion with sensible counter-points, we now go back to name-calling on this board? Ask me why I really think I know why this athletic program is where it is all these years later if you can use this board and much of the vascillating of moods shoot from the hipsters as a microcosm of all our "across the board" UNT fandom. Amazing how far this program has come since we beat the University of Tennessee, now isn't it?:(

REMEMBER JUST A COUPLE MONTHS AGO THIS SCENARIO? Well, it seems I also remember our local board experts pushing very, very ,very hard to get (what I suppose was a benign) cancer out on the playing field earlier this season; you know, the one that for whatever reason was a DD Ball All American defensive stalwart or something?

YET THERE WAS STILL THE BIG MOVE ON THIS FORUM to get that player on the field of battle and Mendoza was just being a a bad coach & hire if he didn't heed the words of those on GoMeanGreen.com and let that player on the field, right? "This player just has to be playing "NOW" (no questions asked, Coach Mendoza)."

Well, the UNT coaching staff did let that kid finally get on the field of battle (albeit he was out of shape like a few others of our veterans were said to have been once they came back to campus for 2-a-days last August).

So did another GMG.com board-driven tunnel-visioned "we have all the answers" attitude solve our problems defensively? Hardly not..........since it turns out that the one many of you would hail as one of our early season "defensive messiahs" became one who with some rather mean-spirited allegations tried his best to not only ruin a HFC's coaching career, but also indirectly try to ruin the personal life of our Head Footbal Coach, too. Welcome to Mean Green Country, Coach Dodge. :(

Still we all know how it is here in America many times, now don't we? You know, how the ones who are the recipient of such ugly allegations are (for darn certain) guilty until proven innocent? And then once proven 100% innocent with a complete judicial exxoneration (and probably even one from the local chapter of the NAACP once they decide to make a decision public--if they do). Yet tthere are still way too many who will perceive any alleged racists in this good country of ours to still be guilty, right? Welcome to Mean Green Country, Coach Dodge. :(

Any other possible benigns out there that can tell us how 5 games were won in 2 years and how they could change all that with the Wave of the Magic Mean Green Wand in one year--mainly this year? And a losing team's fans that rely on statstics from a previous team that produced only 5 wins in 2005 and 2006 to prove some kind of point might just need to move on to a new subject. Who knows, in due time maybe this university will name other facilities from those who would dish out grief toward us all, red & yellow, black or white, eh?

Welcome To Mean Green Country, Coach Dodge. :(

MORAL OF STORY TO THOSE WHO KEEP SAYING "WE ARE BEHIND COACH DODGE ALL THE WAY? Well, if that is the case, trust him in all things that he is doing while he is still in his first season at UNT BUT..........

..........you can't have it both ways with all this "We are behind Coach Dodge all the way but we just ain't behind any of his decisions or hirings."

Welcome to Mean Green Country, Coach Dodge, hope you can just ignore all the oscillations and mood swings you will hear on this board from those who might be just a bit 2-faced with what they post from time to time?

Have A Nice Day! :)
