Maybe I'm too conspiracy minded but....

Has anybody else thought that the charges or racial bias are just a form of scholarship insurance? These suspended players are all still on scholarships....this year. But what happens next year? Since they're not on the team anymore wouldn't UNT yank their schollys? MMMMM How can we insure that UNT won't do that. They don't want to play anymore, and they don't want to pay for the rest of college....... Let's throw a charge of racism out there! If they make a big enough fuss, UNT would be too scared of the negatives to yank the schlarships. Even if it's not true, if UNT didn't give them the rest of the scholarhip it would look like retaliation for making the charge.

I just do not see how that claim holds water, if the discipline issues holds up then their scholarships should be gone, much like if a player is not making the strides needed to keep playing. Also if a player quits the team they should lose their scholarship immediately, but lucky for them they get to keep going on our dollars.

In my limited dealings with UNT players and their families, they've been incredibly loyal to UNT -- a lot more than the average fan. I would think that if these students want to stay at UNT, they'd value the camaraderie of their peers too much to attack the football program and its coaches just to save their scholarships for extra years. They could get financial aid to remain in school.

I had the same thoughts...like a scam. The scholarship dollars hurt us but the three scholarships tied up is like getting sanctioned by the NCAA and losing scholarships to offer, which is worse. I do not know the rules on that, but I suspect we would effectively be short three scholarship players. In the spirit of the Navy game next week, those three guys should be introduced to a little tradition known as a "blanket party".
