I keep hearing thse annoying commercials about DishNetwork & DirecTV not carrying The Mountain West channel. Is this any indication of how the conference is doing in terms of money?

I think this is just a test shot and maybe to put pressure on a TV deal. What would be the point of Air Force leaving the MWC? They already play the other service schools every year plus Notre Dame regularly too. They would forfeit Bowl money gained by the MWC and hurt for scheduling during conference periods of play. Travel would be much worse for them.

However, saying all the reasons why AF won't leave, I hope they do leave the MWC! It would create that crack or shift in conference structure that NT needs to find an opening elsewhere. If Boise were to move into the MWC as replacement then the WAC might have to seriously consider an eastern division or SBC merger of some kind. :)

I just wouldn't want to play in the WAC. Travel costs would be enormous and there wouldn't be any close games for fans to travel to except TCU.

MWC or C-USA should be the goal. In C-USA, we would have four rivals within a 4-hour drive.

First, I agree that CUSA would most likely be better than an eastern division of the WAC. However, Flyer, NT80's point was, if I'm quoting correctly, "...then the WAC might have to seriously consider an eastern division or SBC merger of some kind." Not that we would join with just NMSU LaTech in our hemisphere, er, time zone.

I think a two division WAC with some teams in our area (LaTech, NMSU currently plus perhaps ULaLa, ArkSt, Troy, etc...) would be preferable to the SBC. Though, I'd miss Denver. And the F_Us.

I think that the new coach hasn't thought this thing through. They'd lose more MWC money than they could make as an independent. They'd have no home for their other sports except maybe the Missouri Valley.

If they did and took Boise State as AFA's replacement, it would wreck the WAC. If a merger was tried, that would make an unwieldy 17 team conference; worse than the 16 team WAC of old. If you just took the best 12, you'd be killing five programs.

If it's the demise of the WAC, the only teams that I'd really want would be New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech.

This has to be smoke. Air Force has long-standing ties with all of those powers and good rivalries with the rest of the academies. This is not happening anytime soon and while the MWC is not the Big East in regard to priviledge, it is equal the league in my opinion without the automatic bid.
