I became very frustrated early in the game when the officials kept calling penaties over and over again.

It felt like Dickey was down there on the sidelines coaching the penalties he said he "never coached"

Is the Sun Belt is one of the most penalized conferences inthe NCAA? Anyone have any stats?

Or do we have a serious discipine problem?

The penalties were frustrating, yes.

We do not get top flight college officials in the Sun Belt.

No, we do not have a discipline problem...not even close.

ok so now we have taken to blaming the refs now for our teams penalties (BTW take a look at some of the photos taken by Cerebrus and look at the nice facemask that Venegas has with no penalty called)? What else are we going to blame outside of the coaches and players, maybe the fans for not being loud enough? maybe the metal bleachers glare in Vizza's eyes is why he threw 4 INTS? Where does it stop?

Gee whiz UNTBowler! You like to personally pick out each fan on here who's supporting our kids and coaches through this rebuilding phase and attack what they say.

Did I say "It was the fault of the officials that we had so many penalties called"? NO!

I simply said that we do not get top flight officials in the Sun Belt...and that can be interpreted how anyone wants to. Anyone who deals with this situation knows alot more about it than you do. That last post where you said (Venegas grabbing a facemask) supports mine by saying that we don't get top flight officials and as a result they miss a lot of calls!

Also...I don't know if you're watching what I am watching, but this team doesn't have anything close to a discipline problem.

There are plenty of pre-snap penalties, but the ones that drive me crazy are the special teams penalties. We're eight games into the season and we're getting penalties on kick and runt returns darn near every time we field a kick! It's just sloppy.

Coaching. Sloppy coaching.

Our special teams is beginning to remind me of the song, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." You know, "the ship was the pride of the American side...." Well, the UNT special teams used to be the pride of the program. Now, it's sinking fast.

Blocked punts and field goals, penalties galore on returns, poor return yardage when we do happen to pull off a return with no penalty. Does anyone coach the special teams or do our guys just coach "spread offense" and ignore everything else football related? I mean, seriously.

when there are 13 penalties for over 110 yds in a close game and it has been similar all season that is a discipline problem, not all discipline problems are off the field, there are way to many false starts, way to many punts allowed to be downed inside the 10 and 5 yd lines. I am glad everyone is finding some good, but you can not gloss over the glaring mistakes that seem to happen week after week.

It's "growing pains" folks, plain and simple. We get penalties...they get penalties. Did you watch any of the games on TV Saturday or Sunday? Lots of "yellow flags" floating around and lots of "big time" coaches and programs being flagged. It's frustrating, but "stuff" happens. Lots of "young guy testosterone" (is that how you spell it?) flowing out there. It's tough to hold the emotions, etc. in tact...AND, we are growing up with each game. That's the players, the coaches and the fans. Everyone needs to come back to earth and realize we are in for a tough rebuilding and growing year. But, up until the very end we were in the game Sat. and I was very proud of the way our guys came out in the second half and cut down the deficit. I was, up until "the interception", convinced that UNT was going to win the game. We were in it, and had the "Mo". But, it was not to be.

Bring on Navy...."Sink Navy"...bring out the rowboats for the Navy boys! Be there early...it will be a sellout! Anchors Away!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!

Keep the faith you Mean Green Nation members. You WILL be rewarded...sooner than later!

Me, I had fun at the tailgate area before the game, watching the parade, and watching the game. It was a great fall afternoon on a college campus!

We are the worst in the Sunbelt, including Western Ken.

Rick

We were ranked 85th last year, you know, when we had a terrible coach who couldn't teach discipline to his players.

Now this year we are ranked 111th... but don't let that fool you Rick, see all the offensives in the SBC are better this year, and the kicking rules changes have uh, some how created more penalties, and the passing offense has something to do with this, and the increased traffic on I35 distracts our players more, and mumble mumble bathroom renovations.

Plenty of reason not to ask this staff to improve that area either.

Where do ya'll think the majority of our penalties are coming from?

I saw a couple of unusual personal fouls the other night against us...kind of weird. However, it was obvious that the MUTS guys were running their mouths pretty good.

I think we've had several false starts this year due to the fact of calling plays at the LOS. We had a couple of questionable pass interference calls against the Blue Raiders, but it doesn't seem like we've had a ton of those. I think on Special Teams (which does SIGNIFICANTLY need to improve) we've had an abundance of dumb penalties. One the blatantly stands out in my head is the 12 men on the field against Arkansas after holding them 3 and out on their first offensive possession. STUPID! I am definitely on board with the fact that our special teams needs to greatly improve. You know what's funny too...if the SLC Special Teams didn't make a great play against Euless Trinity last year on their attempted fake punt, they are sitting at home watching Trinity win a state title. Our ST's are not to the point of being able to change games or even seasons yet. We definitely have some issues on BOTH sides of our punt teams that need to be fixed. We HAVE to recruit a kicker with a bigger leg who can get kickoffs to come down inside the 10 instead of at the 20-25 yard line and give the other team great field position. I know a lot of coaches hate to do this, but, Coach Drake may consider (here I am armchair Quarterbacking!) putting some more of the "1's" on the Punt and Punt Return teams instead of having a separate punt team and return team. Just a thought.

I agree UNT Bowler, that you can't overlook the glaring mistakes, but at the same time I don't think you can expect us to be lighting it up this year either for a number of reasons.
