I too am a longtime Sox fan(ask anyone who's known me for years, I'm not a post '03 bandwagoner) - but I am very scared of the Rockies. I mean 21 of 22 is insane.

Honestly I think we lose in 5.

The biggest winner is Fox. There would have been some extreme anguish at Fox over a Cleveland-Colorado series.

Boston over the Rockies in 6! But, not being that much of a baseball fan, I could be wrong...way wrong! :rolleyes:

I'll start watching after one team has three wins. That's when it gets interesting for me!

If the Rockies can continue their "Lights Out" play after a week of inactivity, the Red Sox are in trouble.

Hopefully, it will be more entertaining than the last couple of World Series', even the one my Astros were in was a dog.

That's an interesting perspective. I agree, the last few series have been "dogs" and frankly, yes, I will use that word again, boring.

So, why is that? Why are World Series games, and World Series in general, Super Bowls, the "fake" NCAA D-1 National Championship Game, etc., etc. often just plain bad games? All the build up of the two best teams, etc., etc. and then...BAM! Bad game, bad series! :blink: I wonder why that is? Anyone have any thoughts on the matter or is that a topic for a new thread?

Quick correction - World Series games are usually good - the series often aren't.

I'm not sure why championship encounters are letdowns a good percentage of the time, but I remember reading a quote one that was something to the effect of - with so much on the line, when something goes wrong the team tends to let it steamroll them.

A quote I recall from the "world of sports" and championship games that I like very much came from a Dallas Cowboy, who, as I recall, was a bit of a hanfull in his day...I cannot seem to recall his name, but I am sure someone will and will let us know...he was talking about the Super Bowl and someone calling it the "Ultimate Game"...as best as I recall he said something like..."Well, if this Super Bowl is the ultimate game then why are they playing it again next year?".

I think this quote may have come from Dwayne Thomas.

Pretty much puts all championship games in perspective, doesn't it? Interesting thought. Think about it a bit...maybe this says something about "blowout" cahmpionship games and weak World Series.

I like the thought that the Series may be bad, but the games are good. Hmmmmmm, was that 11-2 (or whatever it ended up being) blowout of Cleveland by Boston in game 7 a good game to watch? I think not if you are not a fan of the Red Sox. For me, I didn't care who won, I turned it off...so, here we are in game 7 with everything on the line for both teams and it is a 11-2 (or 12-2 or whatever it was) blowout! You would think it would be a one or two run game with all that was riding on it. But, that doesn't happen that often in my my memory of 50+ years of watching these things.

I wonder if any "really smart person" has ever studied the "championship games" in sports to see what the real record is in finals, etc.?

I like the thought that the Series may be bad, but the games are good. Hmmmmmm, was that 11-2 (or whatever it ended up being) blowout of Cleveland by Boston in game 7 a good game to watch? I think not if you are not a fan of the Red Sox. For me, I didn't care who won, I turned it off...so, here we are in game 7 with everything on the line for both teams and it is a 11-2 (or 12-2 or whatever it was) blowout! You would think it would be a one or two run game with all that was riding on it. But, that doesn't happen that often in my my memory of 50+ years of watching these things.

It was a close game till the 8th inning(up 5-2). Then the Sox put up a 6 spot in the bottom of that inning. The final margin isn't really indicative of the game. Sort of like Game 2....an 11 inning 5 and a half hour marathon where the final margin was 13-6 because the Indians put up 7 in the top of the 11th.

The Sox/Indians series was a GREAT series... the score of the last two games doesn't reflect what the games were like. Game 6 was an ass stomping don't get me wrong but Boston stepped up from the beginning. Game Seven could have turned out completely different if the third base coach for the indians wasn't a moron. I appreciate his abilities to suck though. The score was 3-2 and he held lofton at thrid on a play he easily would have scored on and then the Sox got out of the inning and ran the score up shortly after. All in All... GREAT SERIES

The Rockies have lost the "Mo" they had...do you think it was the long layoff? They can certainly comeback from 0-2, but the odds are against them. This may be just another of the "blow-out" seies! Let's see...game 1...BIG TIME BLOWOUT...didn't watch and glad I didn't...it had to be a boring game...no contest at all. Last night at 2-1, maybe not so boring with K. Schilling on the mound for the Sox...Man, does her ever come to play in these Series games. He is Mr. October when it comes to pitchers these days.

And, the "curse of the Bambino"???? Way, way OVER!

I think Colorafo can still make this a series, but you have to like Boston's odds withBeckett going in a potential Game 5 and Scholling backing him up in Game 6. Curt will go down as one of the best postseason pitchers ever - and Beckett is right on his tail.

Gee, another great "World Series" blowout. How many 4 game or 5 game blowouts have there been now in a row? Unless you are a Boston fan, this was a BAD series to watch. Let's at least have a little competition.

When they spend as much time as they did last night talking about A-Rod, you know the game is a bummer! Sorry, baseball fans, you have to admit, this was not much of a series..."World" Series???? I guess I missed that team from Japan or India or England being invited to play in the "World" series. can we not just rename it the "Championship Series" or something? O.K., sorry...what little I do like about baseball comes from the traditions of the game, leave it World Series, but get rid of the designated hitter. A tactic used to draw back the "American Fan" who seems to like only offense and will find any excuse to "corrupt" a game just to add some scoring because they are too "antsy" to appreciate the beauty of the sport as it was meant to be played.

O.K., come on...jump in here...this is too much fun. Bring it on, I know you are just waiting out there, you baseball folks...love you all! :flowers:

This is the 4th World Series in a row that didn't go past 5 games. The '03 one was the last that went 6 or more.

Could we rename the WS? Sure. But don't call the NBA or NFL Champs "World Champions" either. The NHL at least just refers to their Champ as the Stanley Cup Champions.

Oddly enough...even though my team is in the AL - I'd also prefer no DH in the game. There's more strategy if you have to account for the pitcher hitting. On the other hand having the AL and NL have different rules is pretty interesting.
