USF down 27-29 to Rutgers, w/ approx 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

Though in a BCS conference, USF is UNT in the sense that it is a directional school in a talent rich state.

For those among us who believe UNT should never strive for greater than top of the Belt and perhaps top 70 in the nation, see USF.

Go USF!

Go UNT!

Go David!

Screw you, Goliath!

I kinda want to see Rutgers win though. Something about an underdog winning.

USF does have a nice away uni. The green pants with the white jersey looks nice.

4th and 37... incomplete

Oh Well. Perhaps UNT can still be the first directional school to win the national championship of this century....

I think Southern California resembles that remark.

Rutgers is the University of New Jersey; perhaps my least favorite state. That pretty much says it for me, underdog or no underdog.

Damn, and I was hoping USF would win it all this year.

Impossible. Even if USF had run the table and won every game by 10+ you would have seen a one loss OU, LSU, USC, etc jump them to play in the national title game.

Good point. The sigh of relief coming from many the pollster could be heard around the globe after the final second ticked off of that game...

I honestly don't think that would've happened.

We won't know now though. C'est la vie.

But we'll never know, because USF couldn't take care of their business.

Doesn't it strike you funny, though, that teams like OU, LSU, UT don't have to "take care of their business" all season long and can recover from a loss during the season? They seem to bounce back and be right back at the top of the BCS standings soon thereafter. Is USF not in a "BCS" conference?

The bottom line is that USF doesn't yet have the cache or ratings pull of these other teams and it's a crock.

I think part of why those other schools are already so highly ranked despite losses is there are a grand total of 5 undefeateds left.

Ohio State, Boston College, Arizona State, Kansas, Hawaii

The only one of those that has no shot at the BCS Championship game is Hawaii. If Boston College wins out they'll probably end up in the top 2, though I could see them jumped. Arizona State would shoot up the rankings if they keep winning. They play California, USC, Oregon - ALL top 15 schools. They'd have instant credibility. Kansas would have to beat several highly regarded schools, plus Oklahoma in the Big XII title game if they ran the table. They'd skyrocket as well.

I'm just hoping Hawaii can end in the top 12 so they can goto the Fiesta.

The way I see it, USF is an 11 year "shake and bake" college program. They haven't earned the right (years playing football) to be called an underdog. An "eye-popping" program that went for none existant to #2 in the nation, yes. The underdog, no.

Without looking at the history of Rutgers football from day one, up until the past year or two, and this year, Rutgers was the true "underdog" since the beginning of their program. Think about all of those 0-10, 1-9, 2-9 seasons those poor ba$tards have had.

Me, I'm glad Rutgers won. Am I jealous of USF? Absolutely! Jealousy or not, I'm still glad Rutgers won.

South Florida is my new "favorite" team. They have done the impossible in, what, 10 years ? They are the model that NT should use. A school can achieve remarkable success in a short time with the proper commitment.

I bet nobody calls them a "directional" school.

Go Bulls

GO MEAN GREEN

BEAT TROY

Let our rise to the top 25 in the nation begin now.

This is always a debate that's fun, ain't it? ;) I think in some cases--yes--a 1 loss team can sometimes bounce back into the BCS mix. LSU's loss was to a very strong Kentucky team in 3OT's. USF lost to a very good but unranked Rutgers.

I think if USF had won out--they would have been playing for the crystal. I think if they run the table from here on out, they'll get a BCS bid for sure. They were ranked at #2 in the BCS before last night, and I think they'll still be in the mix. Long way to go, and anything can still happen.

I think the team that will benefit from this game the most is OU. USF is probably still in the hunt, though.

There was talk about this before the USF game last night on ESPN when they debated if USF deserved the #2 ranking. One of the announcers said something to the effect that if there was a Nebraska logo or Texas logo et al on their helmets that there's no doubt they would be ranked #2. But since it was USF, with no history of being there before, that pollsters wanted to pick apart their schedule and find ways to lower them.

---You maybe right but WHAT may have really benefited the need for a playoff system... We could have a whole basket of schools now that have one loss at the end of the season and a lot of real questions of who should #1 and #2.. I personally support a small playoff system of about 8 teams which would take three weeks and never involve more than one team from any conference or perhaps allow only one conference to have two teams because often two extremely good ones appear in a single conference. One game could played immediately after these conference championships are played and then the last two after finals and during the typical bowl season around New Years. If two teams for one conference is allowed, then set it up so that they could never meet until the final game..

---Arguing over who is 7 or 8 is not the same as who is #1 or #2.... likely these teams would not win it all anyway unless they played a very difficult schedule or their opponents in the playoffs had terrible days or key injuries.

Point well taken. What if I add "public" to the description? If that doesn't work, also add "green."
