Football recruiting update -- Cato off the board

This is the time of year when every college program in the country starts to see some of its top targets in recruiting commit to other schools.

UNT has won more than its share of battles early, but lost one today to Iowa, which picked up a commitment from safety David Cato. The Mansfield Summit senior was among the highest rated safeties holding an offer from UNT, at least according to the popular Web sites that cover college football recruiting.

UNT already has a good safety prospect on board in Vernon's Darien Williams, but could use more help. Three of the Mean Green's top four safeties are seniors, including Aaron Weathers, arguably the best player on the Mean Green's defense.

This is a position on concern for next year. Kartay Agbottah will hopefully be able to continue to improve and solidify the saftey position the rest of this year and into next. It will be intresting to see who steps up at the other position.

Although it sucks that we lost out on a targeted prospect, it makes it better that we're not losing them lower level schools, we're losing them to major BCS schools.

The article sorta implies that he changed his committment from NT to Iowa when in fact he simply just committed to Iowa but we had also offered. I'm from Iowa originally, and if he takes his official visit in winter up there he may change his mind! Anyway, like someone else posted, better to lose them to a Big10 program than a Southland school.
