If you were TD what would you throw at Troy?

My game plan would be a steady diet of J-Mo, Micah Mosley, Cam Montgomery, etc to keep the clock moving with a lot of the short to intermediate passing game mixed in. I would be about 60/40 run to pass. I wouldn't take a lot of deep shots and keep my play calling "low risk/low reward" in theory. If we have 10 possessions in the game and score (TD or FG) on 5-6 of them I would be ecstatic. If we could have a TOP somewhere in the 35-40:00 range I would with 21-35 points that is what I would shoot for. I know this sounds lot like Dickey ball but I think this is what it would take to beat Troy...at least until Gio grows up in the QB role more and the defense doesn't have shaky moments.

Sounds about right. I think the turnover margin will be smaller with less passing, and the passing that is done will be more successful because Troy is playing run-heavy defense. I'd also think about throwing a few QB runs, options, etc to keep them on their playcalling toes.

Honestly, I'd find Troy footage to see what specific plays/formations they're weak against and try to find something there.

I think that would probably be a good game plan against us. You should keep in mind that we don't need a lot of time to score, which actually hurts late in the game when we need to run out the clock. TOP is not that big of a deal to our offense.....at least not so far.

Keep the Troy QB on his back. Blitz, blitz, blitz... They have one of the best offenses in college football, so make the QB rush his throws and decisions. We know about how they play against the big boys. Troy blitzes a LOT. Run hot routes for Jamario. Just one missed assignment on the blitz, then... see ya!

Welcome back Jamario, we missed ya!

Gameplan would be...

Keep doing what we've been doing. These kids are beginning to learn the system, and 'turn themselves loose' a bit. Try to improve from last week.

Everyone knows this game is going to be tough. That's a no brainer. I don't think we need to change anything dramatically for one game.

However, I do like the comments of keeping pressure on Hougabook. He's the real deal and we need to keep him off balance. It could be a long day (and a lot of scoring for Troy) if we don't apply pressure from different angles on Omar. We did a nice job last week of countering defensively against the best rushing offense in The Belt. It will be interesting to see what we can do defensively this week to contain the best overall offense in The Belt.

Offensively, last week, I liked us going into a trips set to the short side and giving the ball to Mosley on the Zone play back to the weak side. They way Monroe over-adjusted to trips opened that play up very nicely. Hopefully we can find tendencies like that against the Trojans. We need to be efficient, stay out of 2nd and long, and protect the football. If we do that, I like our chances.

There's clear evidence this year: There's a reason why you line up and play the games. Anyone can beat anybody on any given day!

My game plan would involve telling Truman Spencer to punt it 17 yards out of bounds to prevent McKelvin from getting a return...a speed linebacker like Mahan, Robertson or Dawson spying Hugabook and make him beat us with his arm...and be patient on offense, the run opens up the pass, the short pass opens up the long pass, take your shots when they're there...and hopefully build off the defensive success of last week

Maybe a good plan, but it's hard to change your off. or off. philosphy week by week. An attempt to completly change would be to admit that your off. is not real good. The basic Dodge off. is ball control thru the air with a smattering of running. I don't think he will stray to far from this .

This is the way ULM chose to play us and it seemed to work for a while. Omar took quite a few shots from the Warhawk defenders but it didn't seem to phase him after the first few possesions.

For some reason, ULM chose to adjust to our offense by dropping eight men in coverage in the second half. Of course, that gave Omar all day to find his receiver or even scrammble for 10 yards a pop. Not sure what they were thinking!

Should be an intersting game!

Offense needs to be able to run when necessary, and I believe they can against Troy.

Defensive ends need to keep containment on the option. Cattousse and Haugabook are studs, and can eat UNT alive on the read. DL must get pressure without blitzing too frequently, or the DB's will be toast.

I think it will be hard for this offense to score that much on so few possessions. Not that we can't, but our percentage isn't nearly that high this year. Perhaps your idea of an increased ground game would keep us from going backwards as much on the opponents' side of the field, but, realistically, I don't think that's a plan that can be implemented well for this team right now.

The first objective should be how to contain Omar Haugabook throughout

the game. Omar makes their offense. Not only is he a "poster child for the

spread offese" as per Coach Dodge, the guy does not make mistakes, is

a excellent runing QB, and can improvise on busted plays. Our DE's must

contain him and disrupt his passing game and zone reads. Troy will attack

our CB's with quick outs, crossing patterns, then try the deep pass.

Second objective is to stop RB Cathouse. Just like LaLaMon's Dawson, this

RB is very quick and once in the open, no one can catch him. Our DT's

and LB's will have their hands full handling a very good Troy OL.

Troy will make their plays, so , again, limit the "big plays". Try to keep

Troy in 3rd and longs, and disrupt their game. Play keep away-our best defense

will be our offense.

For North Texas, I would do more crossing routes than the quick out passes. Troy's

DB's can jump this pass and turn it into a easy 6 pionts. Second, establish a run game-

Troy has the athletes to blitz, blitz, and blitz. Troy will try to confuse Vizza. I would

work on beating the Troy blitz packages, and let our receivers get open on the short

and mid range routes, where Vizza does not have to wait long in the pocket, get rid of

the ball fast. Troys DE's are very fast, and do not forget about 6-6, 290+lbs NT Gales-

this guy is a manster/beast of a NT!, so maybe draws and screens would be good choices.

I think I would have a game plan with several options to use, that would adjust to how

Troy attacks our offense. Seems like Coach Dodge has been doing these offensive

adjustments every week, and the adjustments are starting to pay off.

My game plan would start with a philosophy: That this is a very winnable game provided that we kick it up a knotch. If the defense can play with some grit like they did last week, we might have a shot at this game. I would approach it from the standpoint that if we win this game, the entire conference race suddenly has a different light! I would have an attacking defense with lot of blitzes, fake blitzes and stunts, and I would keep doing what we are doing on offense, with a little more running game than what we have seen.
