That smells of tabloid headlines. That's not cool especially considering the circumstances of the picture are not known. That's pretty cheap. I know there are people upset with the D and maybe even with Mendoza personally, but this is a little over the line unless you know what is being said.

Reread the cutline. It says the coaches "exchanged words."

Exactly. "IF" TD is upset with Mendoza it would have been better to take it inside behind closed doors. Unless it was something really big I'm thinking it looks much worse than it is. Dodge doesn't seem to be the kind of guy to blow up in that situation.

It may be the case that Dodge and Mendoza have such a strong working relationship that it's no big deal to have a heated discussion. Mendoza's coached for him the past seven years. Some people can get in each other's faces and still work well together. My brother-in-law is a dot-com exec who works that way. He ends up with a team around him who can take it.

What the confrontation was about may be speculative but the demeanor of Coach Dodge is not. He appears to be obviously angry and further it was apparently over an event that just happened. I firmly believe that it was just over the game that he would've taken that inside, but I believe that it was something that needed to be addressed at that moment.

The most obvious reason that I believe would rile Coach Dodge would be unprofessional confrontation with a player or fan. It could have been either concerning Chapman (since he is the only player in the vicinity) or Rick.

About Rick...even if Coach Mendoza did not say anything directly to FFR, he either gave a menacing look or gesture, obvious enough that Rick's son picked up on it. He also did it a second time according to Rick. I'd also have a hot sports opinion about someone who refused to shake hands in that situation.

Without checking, I feel certain that Rick has never called for Mendoza's job or even criticized him unfairly. I have probably been more critical than Rick about the performance of the defense; especially when our defense was dead last in two of the categories and only a few spots higher in the others. Don't give me it's the schedule either. According to the NCAA we rank 113th in strength of schedule. When we are taken out of the equation, OU is the only team that we've played with a winning record. Two of the teams are winless when we are removed from the equation. The teams that we have played to date are a combined 9-21 when we are omitted. That doesn't warrant being ranked so low, especially when we return 9 of 11 starters from a defense that was 50 spots higher.

I think that, based on last Saturday's performance, the fan base would've eased off. He just needs to stick with getting results from his job.
