North Texas Makes It Five Straight With 3-0 Win

DENTON, Tex. (10/12/07) – Seeing Brittany Cleveland and Janaye Woods find the back of the net is becoming a common occurrence this season and it was again Friday night as the North Texas women’s soccer team rolled past Troy 3-0 at the NT Soccer Field.

Cleveland and Woods both had a goal and an assist as the Mean Green (11-2, 5-0) extended its winning streak to five straight games.

It took until the 32nd minute of the first half for the nation’s second best offense to get on the board. Sophomore Lauren Shockey got things going with her first career goal. Shockey fired a shot from 25 yards out from the top of the box that ricocheted off the crossbar and then off of Trojan goalkeeper Karla Smith and into the net.

Woods made it 2-0 North Texas in the 39th minute of play she got behind the Troy defense off a feed from Cleveland.

North Texas put the game out of reach early in the second half when Cleveland’s goal made it 3-0. Woods took a pass from Hutyra to the right side and then fed it across to Cleveland for an easy tap in.

Freshman Mandy Hall made her second straight start in goal for the Mean Green and made two saves. The best Trojan (4-9, 1-4) chance came in the 26th minute when Laura Hopson fired a shot from 12 yards out that Hall stopped.

The Mean Green outshot the Trojans 28-3.

North Texas is back in action on Sunday afternoon against South Alabama at 1 p.m.
