I know the sign says 0-5 at this point in the season, but I am still

confident this team can win. The team appears to be improving

each week. Even with the 2 conference losses, what combination

of wins and losses by the other SBC teams can improve our chance

at the NOB or any other bowl game? If this team runs the board

and finishes 7-5, do we have a chance?

yes a possibility of going 7-5, but would take a ton of work and plenty of upsets to get a bowl chance.

Of course just ignore those who want to piss on your parade.

Anything can happen now, even if it is a slim chance.

Yes, but we would have to run the table. We have enough good teams left on the schedule that a 7 - 0 run with good wins after the 0 - 5 start would be a great TV storyline and actually make us attractive to some minor bowl. I think the NOB is beyond reach this season unless Troy does an "el foldo".

How quickly some forget. I'm right there with you...it is possible. In 2000 we were 0-5 coming into the game against MUTS. We were also 21 point dogs. We won. Then ran the table. If anyone can tell me who we will be 21 point dogs to this year then I'll believe it is impossible.

Louisiana-Lafayette....... 1-1, 1-5

Middle Tennessee.......... 1-1, 1-5

Arkansas State.............. 0-1, 2-3

Florida International...... 0-2, 0-6

North Texas................... 0-2, 0-5

First, we would need immediate help with 3 teams. We control our destiny against ULM, Muts, ASU, and FIU. We need someone else to beat Troy, FAU and ULL 2 times. Not impossible odds, but not easy either.

Sorry Emmitt, you are referring to 2001. In 2000, I think we were still in the Big? West.

Threads like this just keep setting us up for a fall.....lets just support the team and the coaches and let them know if we lose it's ok because we know better things are ahead. Let's face facts, we are NOT going to a bowl game this year.

I think FAU would have to lose 3 conference games. If UNT and FAU both finish with two losses, FAU has a tie-breaker advantage by virtue of its win over North Texas. So UNT would have to finish ahead of FAU, not tied.

ULL would have to lose two more.

UNT would need Troy to lose just one more game, because UNT could hand Troy its second loss and at the same time gain a tie-breaker edge.

does your ability to foretell the future work on everything, or is it limited to UNT football games? Cause Im thinking if you can get us the winning megamillion #s, we could get that alleged new stadium started this weekend. :D

lol....you don't need to be a gypsy or have a crystal ball to know we are NOT going to a bowl game this year....but all you need to be to think we are is an eternal optimist :D and thats not a bad thing. I just don't want to hear from these same people who think we have that chance to go to a bowl game to start whining about the coaches when we don't....we got to give these guys all our support and give them time to get new people for their system

      UC Davis to MWC

      SAC St. should eventually get an invite from either the MWC or PAC 7. The Montana and Dakota schools seem happy in 1AA and the cost to move up is high when you add the NCAA $5 million upgrade fee, $2 million entry fee[ MWC] , 20 football scholarships, and stadium expansions to accommodate at least 25,000 fans. NDSU has a covered stadium that seats about 20,000 ( I didn't check the other 5 Dakota schools) so they might get a pass.

      Mountain West looking to add NIU/Toledo

      When CUSA last imploded both schools were invited to join the MAC as a package. WKU was all in, MTSU was not so they were both stuck in CUSA. N. Illinois , certainly much to my surprise, is moving to the MWC , who might be in the market for another football only school. The MAC bylaws require their members to place all their sports in the conference so unless they are changed N.Illinois must find a new home for their 'others." U.Mass is rejoining the MAC so they probably will stand pat. I think the N.Illinois victory over the Fighting Irish may have gone to their head plus their fans are tired of weeknight games that make it hard to attend for those who live out of town.

      Hodge has us more than middle of the road in the AAC. We are definitely in the top 3. If it was not for a bad shooting night for our two top scorers against Memphis, we would be at the top.

      Who did better? PAC 12 or Mountain West?

      I can't disagree with anything you're saying if ACC comes poaching and we're sitting here with Rice, Tulsa, and ULM/LAT as our most local conference peers. If that is the case, and it's a somewhat likely scenario, we need to be looking into the PAC as a viable option and not hush-hush turning them down. If anything, we probably should be lifting our skirt a little bit to keep it open as an option.

      Power Conferences making their move to take full control

      Seems the b10/sec are so worried about making sure they generate the absolute most revenue versus their peers that they’ve lost sight of what excites people about college sports in the first place. Until one of them relents and settles for setting caps in spending, and potentially sharing revenue, I don’t see how this changes. I think that the power brokers believe that most current fans will just adopt their local big state or closest big brand and continue to follow college sports. Time will tell if they are right. For me, I will not. If it gets to the point where UNT no longer has a chance to be in the pool, my interest will evaporate overnight. Maybe they don’t care and assume that enough will that they’ll keep growing their own brands and revenues.
