(I always wonder when a kid commits to a so-so school over numerous name schools. I really doubt we offered this kid......whadda ya think? Also, Cooley anything about him that you want to add?);

From the DMN blog:

Duncanville senior Brian Talley on Monday night said he has orally committed to play men’s basketball at Southern.

Talley, a 5-9 point guard, averaged 7.7 points and 3.5 assists last season in helping Duncanville go 39-0 and win the UIL 5A state championship. Talley split time in the starting point guard spot with Brent Stanton.

Talley chose Southern over Boise State, Florida Atlantic, Prairie View A&M, North Texas and Wichita State. He said he was a fan of the atmosphere, coaching staff and players (two former area standouts, Carter’s Steffon Wiley and South Garland’s Barry Honore’, are on the team).

“I’ll also have a chance to play early there,” Talley said. “The next year, I’ll have a good chance to start.”

Oral commitments are nonbinding. The first day a Class of 2008 basketball recruit can sign is Nov. 14.

Thats more than likely your answer.

Talley is a very good player! Although very quick, he's really a 2 playing the point. The kid can flat out shoot it. I can see where JJ may have shown some interest, but another 5-9 guard is really not a need at this time. What has really raised his stock is the number of quality players around him. 6-7 D'Waylan Roberts was their best player last year and signed with Texas Tech. 6-6 Roger Franklin is a top junior along with 6-7 Shawn Williams. Both will receive mid to high-major ships next year. Lastly, 6-5 senior SF Kevin Butler has already commited to TCU. Duncanville picked up 6-8 Will Brown from Woodrow Wilson late last year but he transferred to an out of state prep school this summer.

As we all know, Duncanville blew out Kingwood by 20 points in the state 5-A championship game and will probably begin the season ranked #1

Then, I take your word for it, my friend. Maybe we did offer him, after all.

Thanks for the info.

'Some interest' does not an offer make.

I think that some, maybe a lot, of these kids use a recruiting trip or even just a contact as having an offer from the school that they visit or talk to.

Given our guard situation after Willingham falling into our lap, I would have serious doubts that this player was offered by us. He could be an exception; depending on his ability to shoot threes. I think that we need a reliable three-point shooter since Ryan McCoy was not eligible.
