Guys, we don't have a legit D1 QB on this roster! Vizza was horrible most of the night. Let's just let Todd Dodge evaluate these guys for the rest of the year to help determine what type of depth he will have over the next 2-3 years.

Hopefully, he will look long and hard at some impact Juco defensive players; if he can't recruit impact high school kids. This is the nations worse football team. Vizza does not make it better this year and definately not in the future.

I don't think I could disagree more with your post. This was Vizza's FIRST COLLEGE START. He is a TRUE FRESHMAN. Do you guys get it? He is making the kind of mistakes that TRUE FRESHMAN make. Not the kind that 4th year juniors make. Does anybody remember when Scott Hall came around. He rode the bench his first few games as a freshman and finally broke through to become the starter. As we all know, we didn't do so hot that year. Hall made FRESHMAN mistakes his first year but he learned from them and he improved and became a very good, if not great, quarterback. He played with grit and determination. He stood in the pocket and waited to throw the ball knowing he was gonna get clobbered. He stuck his head down and took hits to get that extra yard when he ran. Vizza displayed some of the very same attributes tonight and I think he is on a very similar path to what Hall did. Vizza stood in the pocket checking down his receivers numerous times even when he knew he was gonna take a hit. He put his head down and fought for yards. Go back and look at the game on DVR and you will see what Vizza has.

Vizza is definitely a D1 QB and will only get better going forward. Actually he reminds me a bit of Scot Hall in his freshman year with his grit and the fact that he presses a little with the ball (Hall threw his fair share of ill-advised balls his freshman year). He looked good in the 2nd half after he settled-down a bit. The competition between Vizza and Dodge next year will be fun to watch.

Our biggest problem is that we have other guys starting that are not really D1-level players. I don't say that to bash anyone because I know that our guys play hard and do their best. Hell, I wouldn't be able to sniff the 3rd string of a JUCO team. But, facts are facts, and we've had a few bad recruiting years at gool 'ol UNT.

Let's hope that we are getting a lot of speed in the upcoming recruting classes...

I'm as disappointed as anybody else about the loss and our defense's performance. But I just can't believe the crazy posts that keep coming up after each loss, especially this one. Yes, our defense needs MAJOR improvement, but Mendoza is not going to be canned halfway through the season. Nobody gets a free pass, but I think at this point our team's goal is largely to gain familiarity with the coaches' system, and to show improvement through the course of the season. Yes, we want some Ws with that, but I imagine the SBC title is now out of reach. I saw some guys lay it all out for the team tonight, and I appreciate them and the coaches who motivate them. I hope we can rally around our team, show our support, and see some improvement.

Last time I checked our QB tonight was in his first start, is 18 years old, threw three TD's, one hell mary int. and one deflected int. ---- throws for 380 yards or so, got killed about every throw and continues to play his ass off. What I saw on TV and the announcers agreed that this QB was about as perfect as you could be in the second half and was tough as nails.

Does it matter that he starts or if Meager starts, no because we have some problems on defense that are still being worked on. Any one kicking a freshman who plays with that must heart is unbelievable and doesn't know jack crap about what Dodge stands. I saw Dodge fighting for his QB to the very end.

263 yars passing in the second after settling in and getting his ass cranked up every throw. Yeah, he sucks. that is why he had Nevada, which plays pretty good football the last time I looked, wanted him as did four other D-1's. Cooley, it takes a lot of balls to call out a a true freshman that did what he did in that game.

I don't know if I can think of a time that I've ever seen a defense play worse against screen passes. Man, that was ugly. Bring on 2008!

A return to the 3-4 would likely slow down some of those killer screens in my opinion. As far as Vizza is concerned, I don't think the young guy did too badly considering the situation. Some of his passes had a little more wobble on them than I would like, but he made some nice one's also. One or two of our receivers were a little inconsistent with their hands. In this offense, we've got to catch at least 90+ percent of the well thrown balls. We missed a few potentially big catches tonight.

I do agree with the JUCO defensive help, but the rest is proof that you should stick to your expertise.....Basketball.

Agree, UNTLifer...

Sometimes one just has to take a vacation from this gol' darned message board. I am thinking Hawaii, Nanakoolee Beach or the North Shore (just out of Honolulu). Once went body surfing with a group of fellers (and all our "then" wives) at Nanakoolee Beach and this group of guys who used to back-up Elvis Presley when the Jordanaires were unable to join EP for his very first Las Vegas shows. Sorry, I do tend to reminisce....

Should I leave the old laptop behind if I go?

GMG!

PS: This, too, shall pass?

Come on one and all...lets really put whats going on now in its proper perspective (and understand all the years it took us to get to this point) so when TDodge gets us back to the kind of mountain top we've not seen in close to 3 decades--we'll all have a much better appreciation for it.
