Coming into this season we had a veteran defense bringing with them an amazing amount of experience. Below is a list of the men who finished the 2006 season ranked 64th nationally, giving up an average of 338 yards and 25 points per game. *

Veteran’s who listed as the starting lineup against Arkansas per player participation report:

Aaron Weathers…Sr, 22 starts, played in 23 games, credited with 191 tackles. Was ranked 2nd nationally in ’05 for most tackles for a DB.

Dominique Green…Jr, 10 starts, 23 games, 40 tackles.

Antoine Bush…Soph, 11 starts, 12 games, 42 tackles.

Brandon Monroe…Sr, 12 starts, 33 games, 167 tackles.

Maurice Holman…Sr, 23 + starts, 34 games, 179 tackles.

Derek Mendoza…Sr, 12 starts, 32 games, 123 tackles.

Blake Burrus…Sr, 9 starts, 31 games, 14 + tackles.

Jeremiah Chapman…Sr, 23 + starts, 33 games, 123 tackles.

Montey Stevenson…Sr, 6 starts, 34 games, 66 tackles.

Joseph Miller…Jr, 23 games, 51 tackles

*Craig Robertson…RSfreshman,

Veterans who listed as having previous starts who played against Arkansas but did not start that game:*

Roderick Cotton…Sr, 2 starts, 24 games, 67 tackles.

Germain Dawson…Jr, 11 starts, 23 games, 54+ tackles.

Colt Mahan…Jr, 9 starts, 23 games, 58 tackles.

Cliff Higgs…Sr, 1 start(Tulsa), 27 games, 43 tackles.

*Steve Warren…Jr, 8 starts, 23 games, 58 tackles. Has yet to play this season

Veterans who listed on player participation report against Arkansas with no starts credited: *

Kartey Agbottah…Soph, 10 games, 2 tackles.

Lawrence Brown…Sr, 12 games, 11 tackles.

Johnathon Stewart…Soph, 2 games.

Edrick Gilmore…Soph, 11 games freshman year in ’05, 5 tackles, redshirted in ’06.

Raifu Durodoye…Sr, 23 games, 22 tackles.

Isaac Thomas…Jr, 22 games, 14 tackles. Credited with 5 tackles against Texas in ’06.

*Latif Nurudeen…10 games for Baylor, 2 tackles.

That’s 17 starting veterans with 124 starts under their belts we had coming back this season and 24 combined experienced players total, who altogether combined for 1367 tackles. I can't help but feel for the train wreck these guys have been forced to play in this season enroute to becoming the 119th worst defense in the nation. They deserve better, especially the 11 seniors who were there with us in New Orleans in '04. Hopefully they get it turned around this weekend at ULL?

Rick, helluva post. Defense will respond against ULL. It better or it is going to get ugly for Dodge and Mendoza.

Yes Rick, I did consider my source. Your the source, must admit, great post. Dodge is protecting Mendoza from the media but a bad Defensive called game will really turn up the heat.
