All the hoopla for the upcoming TX/OU game makes me wish we had a huge game every year that everyone got excited for. I guess thats what happens when you are the only team in your state from you conference. Sad sad sad. We need local rivals. I guess we tried it with SMU, but no one gets up for that. I guess we will just have to enjoy what we have, no matter how unexciting it may be.

I really hope something like this emerges after the Mean Green is dominating the conference, winning OOC, lighting up the stats pages, and otherwise making news. Other teams will want to share the spotlight. It will be their chance to prove themselves, on national TV, against the Sunbelt's finest featuring Dodge's legendary spread offense attack and Mendoza's impenetrable "Green Curtain" defense.

A regular matchup with TCU would probably have the biggest potential for good attendance from both sides. A matchup with SMU would also be good if their program improves. How about Houston, Tulsa, or LA Tech? It's got to be a program that is consistently good in their conference. Both fan bases have to be motivated for the long term.

If it is a defense with a name anywhere close to that, it won't have Mendoza as the person running it.

Just wait, you'll see. Mendoza will bring the Mean Green defense up to a level never before seen in Denton. I'm talking legendary enough to put his bronze statue in front of the new field. It won't be this year, but it will happen. It's part of the journey. No BS, I'm not fooling around. Mark my words!

He is quickly bringing the defense to Legendary status the wrong way ;)

Kinda like Major League: Thought you had to do something great to get notice.... Not if you do it colorfully.

That is pretty bold. TD has already called him one of the best D-coordinators in the nation. And now you have already ordered the statue for him. Very SLC of you. Make sure you pay for it with the SLC budget. Mendoza has never schemed against teams of this caliber nor talent of this caliber. He has always had more talent than any progam he's faced. Trinity had SLC ass beat last season and should have won, but Trinity's coach (Stevie Wonder) had a brain spasm.

Mendoza and Dodge are learning in the fast lane. Traffic is going right by them but please, don't order the statue yet. I am not going to say he won't get UNT better, but sticking Mendoza further out there will make others want to chop his head off.

99 -- I like that avatar. Helmet does look good with SoW!

Thanks. I posted a web site earlier in the week to the site it came from. I need to send it to Smitty. Even though I like the idea of a White helmet, when I saw this design, it reminded me of how much I enjoy the solid green too. I like the white helmet, though I have never been too fond of the "North Texas" on the helmet instead of the Eagle. I think I would almost rather have "Mean Green" on the helmet over "North Texas."

Give Mendoza time. Rome wasn't built in a day. I believe he will turn things around with time. We're all in this for the long haul. Lets not make judgements after four games.

You sure are optimistic. A breath of fresh air really.

He'd have to do one hell of a job to beat some of the defenses that this school has had in it's past. Mean Joe Greene era comes to mind as a stellar defense. And, Not that long ago, under head Coach Dickey and defensive coordinator Gary DeLoach we had a defense that was worthy of much praise as well.

He has to go a long ways to even sniff what DeLoach did.

Hell, he has to go a long way to sniff what Bliel did, and a year or two ago we were all calling for his head too.

Ultimately, TD has to take some responsibility doesn't he? We talk about missed tackles but we never talk about the 4-3 scheme and the lack of creativity.

One thing I like that Dodge can learn from Mack Brown is ( and I quote " players win games and coaches lose them.") Like Mack or hate Mack, he shoulders on the blame when things go bad. I admire that trait. He gives all credit to his coaches and players.

Mack has no arrogancy in his approach. And the crazy thing about my comments is that I despise Texas.

Being a Razorback fan, I can't stand Texas, but I do like Mack Brown. I think his way of coaching is very good. He takes a hit sometimes on his lack of "punishment" I suppose of the kids that get in trouble down there, but I think they guy is a great coach.

Nothing wrong with the 4-3. Like you quoted Mack, "players win games". The players just need to execute Mendoza's scheme correctly and win. And they don't need the offense and special teams throwing it away for them. In case anyone forgot, the defense had some clutch series in the 2nd half against SMU. They held SMU and gave the offense an opportunity to tie and win. They looked even better at FAU. OU & UA don't count in my book.

Also, does TD really come across as arrogant to some folks? He seems to me like one of the least arrogant coaches around.

Like I said, coaches lose games they are supposed to win, i.e. FAU and SMU. The 4-3 scheme and lack of pressure from the almightly LB blitz package is not cutting the mustard. Everyone who has watched on all the Dallas TV channels knows that TD's swagger is boardline arrogance.

Does that mean I don't like TD, of course not. But you have to take some responsibilty and admit when your struggling and look yourself right in the mirror.

I am pro TD, but calling for bronze plaques for Dodge and Mendoza might be a little premature. Well maybe not, your a SLCoutsider.

Put up the bronze and statues up over there, where they are well deserved. UNT is not SLC.

And in what way are you related to Mendoza?

You've obviously never seen the Mean Green defense during DeLoach's tenure.
