I've not the first clue what Todd Dodge's logic is. I do know what I watched ASU do last year.

Coming out of spring last year I kept hearing, "That red-shirt freshman Corey Leonard is the real deal, he'll be the starter".

Fall rolls around Travis Hewitt is the starter but Leonard was seeing action. Leonard ended up with a few starts but they would use a quick hook to get him out whenever he struggled. Fans were going ape-poo over the fact he wasn't playing full time.

Now a year later Corey Leonard has played the whole season except one play at Texas, a drive or two at the end of the Tennessee game, and the final possession against SMU.

He is now a confident team leader, he's 26th in the nation in total offense, and Arkansas Sports 360 put him on the cover this month's issue asking if he was the best college QB in the state.

Barring a miracle finish to this season you go into next year with only red-shirt seniors who have been part of a winning team at UNT. Throwing guys to the wolves isn't always the best way to develop them for the future.

I hope you are right, because I can't take another season with Meager as the QB after this season.

And all this after 4 games of the DodgeBall Era?

More craziness in a another subject area:

How many on GMG.com would have run this coach or any of his assistants off after the following season listed below?

Game 1 L Lost to SMU

Game 2 L Lost to Tulsa (not even a close game)

Game 3 L Lost to Lamar U (not even playing football anymore)

Game 4 T Tie Game With An Old Missouri Valley Foe Who Also Dropped Football

Game 5 L Lost To Louisville

Game 6 W Won Over A Bad NMSU Team

Game 7 L Lost To Memphis U (in a big UM Tiger's blowout over the Mean Green)

Game 8 W Beat SDSU Aztecs

Game 9 T WTSU--Now A Division II program

Game 10 L Long Beach State U

If in this coach's 2'nd year at UNT he would have read a board like this, might he have said "I don't need any of this--screw it all?"{:>(

If that would have uncharacteristically (by any new coach) happened, UNT would have never beaten the University of Tennessee Volunteers under Coach Hayden Fry in...................the very next football season following the aforementioned 2 win season.

Well, it's a good thing then, that these boards weren't around back then. PMG to be honest, I think it's really great what Hayden did here for this program. But this season is what matters to me. Stop talking like we want to run Todd Dodge out of town. It's not all tulips and Pansies for all of us. I'd like to us win this year. Focus on this year plumm. Not 5 years ago, not 10 years ago, not 20, or 30. Todd Dodge isn't reading this board, and if you believe he is then, he would understand. Because as much as we hate losing as fans, I guaran-damn-tee you, he hates it worse. We don't even come close.

I think Todd Dodge is the right man for the job, because he wanted it. And, more than anything, I think he wants to leave a legacy. And his son even bought into it. They will both leave a legacy. They both WANT to be here. And, I WANT them to be here. However, I really want our defense to be decent this season. So if we are questioning some things after being 0-4, I think anyone in the whole freaking nation would be alright with it.

Naw. If Vizza comes in and plays knockout QB, all he has to do is give Riley a redshirt and make Riley the guy his Junior and Senior years. Riley could be backup QB and a slot receiver his Freshman and Sophomore years. Blood ties run deep, but I doubt deep enough to basically sabotage his own team.

I agree, but it kind of depends on just how good Vizza is. That's one of the reasons that I want to see more of Vizza THIS YEAR. It could definitely have an effect on whether or not Riley gets a redshirt. If he does redshirt, I suspect that he will get some time on the field his first two years at WR as well as QB. We just need to figure out what we currently have at the position before this season is history.
