Just thinking about how our attendance ranks with the other members of the SunBelt. Per the NCAA Accumulated Attendance Report dated 09/30/07:

UL-L, #89, 23368

ASU, #92, 22620

UL-M, #94, 22022

Troy, #99, 21188

North Texas, #101, 20479 (Note we could not rank higher than #81 (30212) as our stadium would be at beyond full capacity)

MuTS, #107, 18846

FIU, #115, 12201

FAU, #117, 11079

and others of interest

WKU, 17532

SMU, #98, 21317

Do you guys have a place for "overflow" crowds (if needed)? Cajun Field has a 31,000 capacity; but with extra space on the endzone hills we had 33,828 for McNeese this year, and have had more on a couple occasions in the past. Just curious. Hopefully we'll have a decent crowd for you guys this saturday; but I doubt it will be much over 15K if that.

Keep in mind that SMU average is heavily skewed due to Texas Tech and UNT. They played UTEP on Saturday and drew a measly 16k.

Also we've only played 1 home game to date... against FAU. Others might have already played more than one home gaem to date.

This is an improvement from where the Sun Belt was a few years ago. We (the conference) have also gotten some good OOC wins too. Too bad none have been by the Mean Green.

Uh...I wouldn't go there my friend ("Not so fast", as Lee Corso would say). That just MAY be our best home game attendance of the year. Unfortunately, it looks like our attendance may drop considerably for the next home game.

I hope I am wrong, but...

Shoot, I'm expecting more folks for the NAVY game in NOV. I would expect the team to win a few prior to that date so possibly our attendance could improve, plus the NAVY folks would also be in attendance. Green punch... maybe, but her's hoping, right.

Very good point, jperg2.

We should not mock other schools' attendance woes, for the Mean Green has had its issues as we've grown. Hopefully, we'll get a few Ws on the board before the season ends, or we may draw less than 10K late in the season (dare I say a win-less or one-win Mean Green squad might draw less than 5K against Western Kentucky on November 24th?). I know, kool-aid-kids, "Blasphemy!" Nevertheless, it is a legitimate worry; one that can be remedied by scoring some wins... sooner than later.

Dodge ball or not (601 freaking yards!), we need to win some games... quick... if we hope to have an average of close to 20,000 (instead of the minimum D1A requirement, which I believe is 15K). Having Navy at home definitely helps...

A win this week I think would lead to us drawing 18K+ to ULaMo on 10/13. If somehow we pull off a win at Troy, I would predict our next home game on 10/27 against MTSU would draw at or above 18K. ... Now, if we lose at ULaLa this week, I suspect our attendance will be just over 15K for ULaMo (hopefully, at least that many).

In any event, if our recent history is any indication, we certainly are in no position to criticize SMU for drawing only 16K at a home conference game.

You resident SMU defender,

Mean Green Wave

p.s. None of the above should be construed as negative; I know the Mean Green can be averaging 40K+ at a new stadium with an exciting Dodge team (hopefully, in a few years.....) hopefully.

UNT fans will show up for the Muts game (homecoming) and Navy. ULM may be a hard sell if we lose this week to 0-5 ULL, but we'll see. At least the losses are more fun to watch now. It's all about the "O"! :)

A conference positive was Western Kentucky. They average 17,532 for two games in a stadium that only seats 17,500. I have a feeling that they will come in to the league next year with an average attendance of over 20,000. They will add an additional 5,000 seats after this season ends. They should be solid in attendance and I'd say pretty competitive on the field as well.

Red is definitely going to be the dominant color for the Sun Belt. The Cajuns, Hilltoppers, Indians (or whatever they become), Trojans and Owls all have red as one of their colors.

I have heard from several sources that the Navy game has been totally sold out for the past two weeks. Should be a great crowd out for that game, unless a bunch of people who bought tickets lose interest...

Well, to be fair, for some fans (and I am not saying I am one) it is difficult to pay a ridiculous amount of $$$ for airline tickets, hotel, food, sundry items, etc. just to watch your team get their a$$es handed to them ( a la Tulsa 2005).

For a raucous crowd, good action, and the chance to see bodies thrown around, some fans would rather go down to their local Wal-mart for the sell on Beanie Babies and save some $$$...

But, alas, I will be there for that Navy game come hell or high water! Come to think of it...at least the Navy will be there if there is "high water"! :D

Reserved (Sections A & I) and end-zone seats are still available.
