Many have suggested that Todge doesn't want to rattle the freshman so Meager will be our starter all year with Vizza worked in little by little. Ok, fine I can kinda buy that.

Now what do you do when next year you have a senior in Danny Meager who isn't as talented as your sophomore but the senior was your starter and took the majority of the snaps? Do you bench the senior? Will we have to go through 2 years of knowing a better option is on the bench? And if you redshirt Riley do you make Riley your backup when Vizza is a junior? Is that the Todd Dodge plan...everyone gets to be a starter in their junior and senior years?

My point about Todge's experience being benched is that he's probably going to stick with Meager unless it becomes very obvious that he's not working out. Given a tie between Meager and Vizza, I think the nod will go to Meager. One philosophy would be that, if you have a Senior and a Soph of equal talent, you would start the Soph because he "is the future" and has more potential to gain experience and grow. I don't think Todge subscribes to that philosophy. He's proven at Southlake that a number of players can succeed in his system, even a 1-year starter. His system produced 4 consecutive QBs with state titles and 5a player of the year or offensive player of the year awards. I think he sees Meager as the future for these next two seasons.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is what I want to see. But I wouldn't be too surprised if things play out like this.

Obviously, at the D1 level, a great system alone won't win games. You must have the best talent available at each position, especially the field general. So I think Vizza will get the job if he can demonstrate that he's obviously better.

I would imagine that the QB position will, once again, be an open competition going into spring practice after this season. I could be wrong about that, and I'm not saying we won't still see the same player starting next season, but it seems that, in Dodge's eyes, this would be the appropriate time to, if necessary, make a change. He wanted to name a single, clear starter at the beginning of this fall, but he never stated that this person would be the QB of the future.

Here again we are putting the cart way out in front of the horse regarding what position Riley Dodge will play in college. He may not even sniff the field in 2008, so relax a little, eh? And, he may never get behind the center. So, ease up. We've got two more months of 2007 yet to play. It's way too early to be talking 2008.

Emmitt I ask myselt this same question and continue to ask it when I hear Dodge in the post game shows. I hope I am wrong, but I believe after listening to Dodge, that this may in fact be the reality. I have a hard time believing that Dodge will bench the QB after a full season in this offense and it being his senior season.
