In 2001 we started 0-5, including a conference loss to UL-Monroe...and we finished the year with a loss to then D-1A Troy. We won the Sun Belt.

In 2002 we started 1-5, the one win was against D-1A Nichols State. We won the Sun Belt and the New Orleans Bowl.

In 2003 we started 1-3, and ended up 9-3. We won the Sun Belt.

In 2004 we started 0-4, including a 65 point loss to UT and a 31 point loss to Colorado. We won the Sun Belt.

I was unconscious during 2005- and 2006...so I'm not sure what happened...something about struggling was mentioned when I woke up.

So far in 2007 we're 0-4, with two games that were very winnable, one against a very solid team, the other against one from a conference that is supposedly better then our own. Those who expected Papa Todd to show up and immediatly start a 79 game win streak may need to step back a moment and actually look at what our program has been for the past 20 years...even what we consider the best 4 year streak in our program's history are very under-impressive on a national scale. This is going to take time and patience.

The next two weeks should be a very good litmus test. Lafayette and Monroe are down, and it comes at a point in our schedule where I believe the coaching staff has someting to prove to the fans, AD and administration...kinda like Arkansas had to do this week. This game had blowout written all over it as Roothog needed something to right the ship.

Those who see this program as the next Boise, and I include myself in this group, need to realize that our first step needs to be getting out of the cellar of our own conference...baby steps...but Boise has been building this success for ten years...in 1996 they went 2-10, in 98 6-5, in 2000 10-2...the miracle turn around just doesn't happen.

We are in a much better place with Papa Todd and Sexy Rick Villareal; exciting football, an energized fan base, early recruiting commitments, new stadium discussion, ect.

All this said...bring back Frank Bliel.
