North Texas (0-3) at Arkansas (1-2)

6 p.m. today, Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium (KWRD-FM 100.7, KNTU-FM 88.1)

07:55 PM CDT on Friday, September 28, 2007

Line: Arkansas by 36

Vizza will see some playing time

North Texas quarterback Giovanni Vizza will play today, but only coach Todd Dodge and his players know exactly when and how long the freshman will be in the game in relief of junior starter junior Daniel Meager.

"This is what we have been planning all along," Dodge said. "I played quarterback and have coached it all my life. I am a big proponent of having a situation where the quarterback understands that he is not only as good as his last series. As long as we communicate to our players what we are going to do, we will be fine."

Dodge said he wants to get his backup some work in an offense that comes into today's game ranked fifth nationally with an average of 378.0 passing yards a game.

The Mean Green will have to maintain that pace to have a chance against Arkansas and its standout backfield of Darren McFadden and Felix Jones. McFadden's 173 rushing yards per game is tops among players on Bowl Subdivision teams. Jones is averaging 119.3 yards a game.

Arkansas is 0-2 in the SEC after back-to-back losses to Alabama and Kentucky.

North Texas wins if ...

The passing game maintains its torrid pace and UNT improves dramatically in other areas. UNT has 10 turnovers and gives up 51.3 points a game.

Arkansas wins if ...

The running game takes pressure off quarterback Casey Dick of Allen and a defense that has allowed 83 points the last two weeks combined.

Prediction

Arkansas 49, UNT 17

I hope they put my buddy in the first half for some quality minutes. If Dodge would start giving Giovanni some playing time, this guy would be ready to take over the reigns in a game or two. He just needs the experience because this dude is pure clutch and is a tremendous leader and competitor. When the chips are down, he rises above it all. Good luck Gio, wishing you well from the land of AH, 78209.

I 2nd this motion. He showed tremendous poise against OU. I can't believe that was his first game out of high-school. Talk about being thrown to the wolves! I think he could probably step in and take over for Rex Grossman in Chicago.
